Thought it might be good to have a freecycle thread here. Freecycle.org is good for giving things away but why not here too?

Anyway I have an Alesis Controlpad to give away, just mail me if you want it

Hello Everyone!, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 10:23 (seventeen years ago)

While we're at it, I have a pro-form reclining exercise bike on which everything works except for the screen (probably the lcd battery is replaceable). If anyone wants it, there's no way in hell I'm moving with it.

Freecycle has been very, very good for throwing out tantalizing lists of stuff that I never grab in time.

fourteen years pass...

ugh the etiquette of freecycle does my head in

i: currently i have two items, placed on the list on friday
ii: in both cases someone contacted me within minutes
iii: i said yes for item 1 to person A and as it was popular then marked it as TAKEN, to stem the flow of ppl saying "is this still available"
iv: i also earmarked item 2 for person B (tho didn't mark it as taken as there was much less interest)
v: person A didn't make a date to pick it up for three days and when i nudged them on monday said they couldn't pick it up for family reasons (?) and give it to someone else
vi: person B -- who had also expressed an interest in item 1 -- said they'd pick it up once they'd fixed a flat tyre
vii: of course i haven't heard from them since, despite saying they can also take item 1 (as person A no longer wants it)

my guess is that eg persons 3-8 would have picked the items up very quickly but there's no way to know and "first come first served" seems the correct way to respond? anyway answer yr fkn emails, ppl who are getting a nice free item

that's the thing, as it's free they are under no obligation to you so much more likely to flake out.
