Who is your favourite *major* Simpsons character?

We've had a thread on minor Simpsons characters, but why not do a poll on the major characters in the show? The definition of a major character here is that the character must have his or her own Wikipedia entry. However, I've left out some characters with their own entries, either because they've only appeared in a handful of episodes (Mona Simpson, Fat Tony, etc.), or because - despited appearing regularly in the show - their main function is to provide short gags (Hans Moleman, Cletus, Professor Frink, etc.), and they can't therefore be considered major.

Go on and vote, then!

Professor Frink is surely more major than some of these?

But I vote Bart.

Lenny.

Dom Passantino, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:07 (seventeen years ago)

Looking at that list, The Simpsons doesn't really have too many compelling female characters, does it?

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'm torn between Lisa and Nelson.

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:10 (seventeen years ago)

I know it's kinda hard to differentiate between major and minor characters in The Simpsons, but we can do a minor character poll after this one, if people want that.

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:13 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I've ever seen a Kent Brockman appearance I didn't like, he's getting my vote.

StanM, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:29 (seventeen years ago)

WTF? Rod & Todd Flanders are 'one' character?

SeekAltRoute, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:35 (seventeen years ago)

I've never noted too many differences between the two, I didn't think there was a point in separating them.

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:38 (seventeen years ago)

I guess Patty and Selma are often like that too, but as the show has progressed they've at least been given distinctive stories of their own.

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 10:40 (seventeen years ago)

HOMER!

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 23 May 2008 11:18 (seventeen years ago)

comic book guy's function isn't to provide short gags?

ken c, Friday, 23 May 2008 11:26 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not the biggest Simpsons buff in the world, so I haven't seen every episode, but apparently he's had episode (sub)plots devoted to him.

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 11:32 (seventeen years ago)

and Fat Tony hasn't?!?!?!

ken c, Friday, 23 May 2008 11:45 (seventeen years ago)

he supplied rats milk to the school! RATS MILK!!! ARRRGH

ken c, Friday, 23 May 2008 11:46 (seventeen years ago)

Well yeah, I guess Fat Tony could've been included to this poll for being a semi-regular character. Like I said, I didn't have any clear-cut rule on who to include.

Tuomas, Friday, 23 May 2008 12:16 (seventeen years ago)

Moe

Rock Hardy, Friday, 23 May 2008 14:41 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to marry Lisa.

Oilyrags, Friday, 23 May 2008 14:45 (seventeen years ago)

Kahnnie can be my piece on the side.

Oilyrags, Friday, 23 May 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

And now, I will do what any reasonable person who has just admitted he wants a threeway with preadolescent cartoon characters should do, which is throw myself from the roof of this building.

Oilyrags, Friday, 23 May 2008 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

milhouse.

bingolola, Saturday, 24 May 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't know Milhouse had so many fans.

Tuomas, Sunday, 25 May 2008 15:20 (seventeen years ago)

Moe is probably the most reliably hilarious guy here, especially when he's trying to off himself.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 25 May 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

God I love Wiggum a hell of a lot too tho.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 25 May 2008 15:24 (seventeen years ago)

Need a distinction between dumb-as-shit Homer and regular guy Homer

stet, Sunday, 25 May 2008 18:05 (seventeen years ago)

Lionel Hutz aka Miguel Sanchez.

I wish a slow and painful death upon all who vote for Ralph (well, ralph post season 8 or so)

mehlt, Sunday, 25 May 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

homer is the obvious answer. ralph should win some fan votes.

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 25 May 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

What happened to Ralph after season 8?

Tuomas, Sunday, 25 May 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

Well, he was funny when he was the normal, kind of slow kid. When the simposons started going bad (starting from season 7 and especially come season 12 or so) he became a caricature of himself to extents which were pitiful, and so many of the less intelligent people I knew just loved it. Ralph hasn't said anything remotely funny since this (of course iin classic era simpsons he has many a good moment)

Interesting fact, Ralph wasn't Chief Wiggum's son until the valentines day episode (where the writers just decided to make him his kid from then on)

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 25 May 2008 21:53 (seventeen years ago)

After much deliberation I went for Troy McClure (if I could vote for him AND Lionel Hutz, even better).

My fave character however, is Snake, who is as minor as some other characters in this list, but oh well.

WHO ARE THE SIX LOSERS WHO VOTED FOR LISA SIMPSON?

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Saturday, 31 May 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

Me.

Tuomas, Saturday, 31 May 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

Besides Homer, she's easily the most complex and sympathetic character in the series.

Tuomas, Saturday, 31 May 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

Bart = 1.
My solitary vote made a difference.

Ned Trifle II, Saturday, 31 May 2008 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

Besides Homer, she's easily the most complex and sympathetic character in the series.

^^^

Lisa haters suck. I think I voted for Burns or Milhouse, though.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Sunday, 1 June 2008 10:00 (seventeen years ago)

Homer, complex and sympathetic? Gaaaaaaahhhh.

ledge, Sunday, 1 June 2008 10:16 (seventeen years ago)

lenny deserved more than one vote (oh if only i'd voted)

electricsound, Sunday, 1 June 2008 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

Homer is a douche. A colossal douche. Lazy and arrogant. Selfish and ignorant. So ignorant that he is thoroughly ignorant of his own ignorance. So selfish that his love for his family is only ever expressed as the realisation that he would be lost without them. He rarely means well and never tries hard.

ledge, Sunday, 1 June 2008 10:25 (seventeen years ago)

i forgot to vote in this poll or i def would've voted for principal skinner -- BY FAR the most "complex and sympathetic" character, as well as one of the funniest.
