Alright. What's your favourite herb? Mine's coriander. It's versatile and exciting. Also, which herb do you dislike? I can't think of any I don't like, although I don't like the connotations of oregano.

Alix, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

coriander (in curry), sage (in tomato soup yum) and the humble parsley. ooh i need to buy parsley as am making tabbouleh tonight, thanks for reminding me! and MINT mmm bung a stack of that in boiling water for REAL mint tea... yum yum!! OOOH and basil in yer pasta sauces NATCH. and chives - when i was a toddler i ate ALL the chives in my mum's herb garden and smelt odd for the next couple of days... i think i love all herbs as well!

katie, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I could really do with a cup of mint tea right now. mmmmmmmmmmmint

Alix, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rosemary is lovely with tomatoes too.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i used to be all about the basil. coriander natch. i recently went through a phase (i.e. a far too big bag) of tarragon. now i am in a big patch of no-cooking :-(

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

rosemary was very nice withnb potatoes on saturday night, along with pimenton, fresh garlic, a chilli, a little stock and a teaspoon of tomato puree. Possibly my new favourite recipe.

chris, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Corriander tastes like Avon soap.

Tarragon and basil and rosemary and chives (are these a herb or a salad product?) rock.

Anna, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I make a bitchin' roast tomato, pepper and garlic soup - but the kicker is topping it off with parmesan and basil. Yessir.

dan, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mmmmmm, tarragon, especially on mushrooms or a nice piece of fish.

I put some rosemary in my pommes dauphinoise last night but it didn't have the desired effect.

and a mixture of coriander and parsley in couscous is lurvely.

chris, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Like avon soap? You're avin' a Turkish. I like grilled and chopped turkey breast with coriander, red chillies and spring onions, served with egg noodles. Lovely.

Alix, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i can't belive n o one's joked about cumin

Queen G, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cilantro, tons of it. Basil's close tho.

Hunter, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Goeff, that's cos Cumin is a spice not a herb.

chris, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cumin, the overused spice.

Samantha, Tuesday, 19 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I found lots of frozern ERBS in the freezer this morning. I bought a load of Thyme on thursday but I am not sure of what to make with it..

Sarah, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No hurry - it lasts quite well. Thyme is on your side.

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cilantro = Coriander??

Sarah, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HEIN?

confused, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cilantro is the alternative name for Coriander, yes.

chris, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, but my thyme joke..

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought it was a piece of sage advice, sorry.

chris, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We're still staggering with disbayleaf.

Ellie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm still trying to parse-ley it all out...

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is a sorrel state of affairs.

Anna, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's just rubbish. What's that 'ley' doing? Nothing. A bit more dilligence in from you in futute, Katie Gro-bag.

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And yes I did mean futute.

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is a yarrow-ing thread.

Anna, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shut it. you're all mintal. specially you, Dastoor!

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear god, are you grading homynyms (sp?) and puns now?

Ellie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Homophones, I mean. And poor sentence organisation in last post might imply that I think n. = god. I do not.

Ellie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I'm not God, in case anyone was wondering.

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

we don't want your homophonic ways around here N.!

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Piss off and go and worship some golden calf then. See if I care.

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah ewe some kind of homophone?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You know, I've always preferred Peaches.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

idea for a bootleg = mixing Peaches and Herb "Reunited" with Peaches "fuck the pain away". OK, so it wouldn't ACTUALLY work, but...

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha, you could call it the "Huff'n'Puff'n'Herb" mix, Alan

(ps belated thanks to mark for words to "Dill", if you can fill in the rest of "Sage" as well i'll love you for EVAH)

Jeff W, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Love me instead (I am a jealous God)

I'm a rather fat feathery owl called Sage,
I'm not at all happy in fact in a rage,
it's bad enough having ones home all upset,
but to make matters worse all my feathers are wet.

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

k-blimey! the mind boggles (or woz Sage's song always episode- specific, ie words kept changing?)

anyways, thanks and, um... love, N.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno. I never watched the stupid thing. I was just copying it from here

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
i am rocking the thai herb plate. it has: lime, peanuts, bean sprouts, ginger, garlic, lemon grass (i think - maybe it's something else), red onion, peanut sauce, and one other thing which i don't know what it is.

i like to have this every once in a while, and it's good if yr sick cuz it will kick the germs ass. they're like "no way! too spicy!"

ron (ron), Saturday, 15 March 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about taking the piss out of my middle name.

I like sage in white wine sauce, especially with veal. Oregano is always good too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 15 March 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Yr middle name is really Herbert? Blimey

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 15 March 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, what a giveaway. Actually, people I meet in AIM chats a lot already knew - MartinSkidmore had been taken, so I am MartinHSkidmore.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 15 March 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

five years pass...

So, I'm back to college soon, and I'll really miss all the fruit and vegetables from my Mam's garden. I want to have a few herbs or something growing on a windowsill, but every gardening book at home or website I check is intimidating me out of it, just making it sound so intimidatingly complicated. I'm not gonna be there long, like nine months, so I don't want to be sowing in april, I want to sow now! How possible is this on about a third of a shoestring and who's done this before and has any tips tricks hints etc.

I know, right?, Friday, 22 August 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

all my herbs are dyin' :(

gbx, Friday, 22 August 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

so, do I want your advice? : )

I know, right?, Friday, 22 August 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

I think that a lot herbs are pretty easy to let grow on their own, given enough light and regular watering.

Go to your local garden center and see what they say. They'll help you out, fer sure.

B.L.A.M., Friday, 22 August 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

my problem is this is exactly the kind of thing I never think of.

I know, right?, Friday, 22 August 2008 20:48 (seventeen years ago)
