Things that are generally bad signs re: one's state of being/general direction in life.

1) Being able to identify shopping channel presenters by their hands (ie on jewelery shows)

jel --, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 15:46 (seventeen years ago)

Being able to describe the specific plot of a Law & Order episode right after the Orbach zing. Writing that sentence.
Thinking of L&O in terms of seasons, with the post-Orbach years being somewhat dulled.
The ability to to say "In the criminal justice system the people are represented by two equal but separate groups - the police who arrest criminals, and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories. CHH-CHHUNG!" on cue.
(I'm not sure I got it right! I never have to write it down.)

3) getting more Custosian in your twilight years

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

4.)Having a television schedule memorized, as if the ability to watch a show might, say, interrupt eating.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

5) Having the uncanny ability to find, within 30 seconds, a rerun of "Friends" at any time of the day (my wife has found her super power)

B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

if the topic comes up, will go off on very specific l&o season rants until i am made to shut up

bell_labs, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

also it's "two seperate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime..." etc

bell_labs, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

now let's hear you recite the SVU preamble, linds :)

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

6.) Having been down since I began to crawl.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

bell_labs, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

Facial tics that engage when thoughts of, well, whatever it is that bothers you, enter your mind.

Aimless, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

12. Hating everyone else on the bus

ledge, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

Episodes of road rage.

Aimless, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

Bad sign on hwy. between Atlanta and Alpharetta: "DEBRIE ON ROAD"

Bad sign near a trash-pick-up crew in Sulligent, AL last October: "PRISONERS WORKING". (For some reason it pissed me off that it specified prisoners instead of saying "MEN WORKING".)

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

100.) people at home on the internet ignoring lists.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

Trying hard from memory:

- In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these (ADJECTIVE MEANING SAME AS "HEINOUS") felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.

- In New York City's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Major Case Squad. These are their stories.

- In the criminal justice system, all defendants are innocent until proven guilty, either by confession, plea bargain, or trial by jury. This is ("ONE OF THE TRIALS"?).

nabisco, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

*dung dung*

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

Sadly enough I remember the various D4rni3lle-inspired theme-song lyrics better than the openings, though I don't think I ever thought of any for the quick-bombing Trial by Jury.

nabisco, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

trial by jury sucked.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

It did, but I feel obligated to stand by any L&o that (a) balances out their trend toward murder-mystery drama stuff by keeping the technical/procedural side intact, and (b) CASTS MY DEAR BEBE NEUWIRTH

nabisco, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

Abbott, it's CHh-Chung!

aimurchie, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

There was a poll about this!

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

"in the criminal justice system, there are many many sexy lawyering cougars in skirt suits. bebe neuwirth is one such fine lawyerin' woman. these are her stories"

TCHUNG TCHUNG

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

i like that they say "heinous"

andrew m., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

teh bad sex crimes are considered way bogus

andrew m., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

How did I miss that poll? it's not two equal chungs - the second one has way more gravitas.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

does gravitas=reverb?

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

chu? tchu? y'all crazy. it's gotta be a gung gung or dung dung. no chu to it!

andrew m., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

We should not get into this again. It became apparent on the last thread that everyone heard them differently -- accented on the first one, accented on the second one, equally accented ...

And then that proceeded into disagreement about whether or not there were different varieties on different shows, or perhaps a whole bank of variations on the basic sound, employed in various locations to fit mood and soundtrack ...

nabisco, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)
