Heaven needed someone to draw lots of pictures of fat women that for some reason sold for a lot of money.

RIP and well done for getting away with it for so long

The Guardian has linked a snotty, condescending review of her last show by Adrian Searle just below their obit, which strikes me as damn bad form.

True dat, even if she was the "Big Girls You Are Beautiful" of the greetings cards biz.

Wouldn't expect The Guardian to bring class sneering into the arts coverage, huh?

Real talk: I really love Cook, Jack Vettriano, and the dude that does the football crowd photos for their ability to piss off the current art critic establishment. 200 times more effect than any fucking Billy Childish wackiness.

I went to Itsu with AA Gill last night and he said you were the new Taylor Parkes. Fancy!

"Good Taste" is the enemy of Art. Enemy of pretty much all right-thinking, to be honest.

she had a way with faces and hands.
jesus this is bizarre -- i spent some time in the UK as a very little kid, so my memory-window into british culture is basically a six year old's view of the mid 80s. and beryl cook looms large. my mom just dug out my copy of "My Granny" from the basement when she cleaned house. rip.

I remember reading that Searle review when it was printed. What a nasty, snidey piece of shit it was. It made me like her a bit more than I did before. I thought she was OK! I kind of quite liked her without, eh, you know. RIP anyway.

That Serle piece is fucking bizarre. It seems to hover under the belief that the majority of alcohol and drug fuelled violence on Britain's streets is caused by old dears wandering out of Beacon Bingo.
