I take it esoteric hitlerism comes under Nazi mysticism?

jim, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

Wait? Where is the 'none' option?

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

That doesn't really fall under the "practice" category, does it now?

Just say Latter Day Saints. We all know you're going to end up back there sooner or later. ;-)

B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

This thread is about which religion you practice, not which religion you don't practice.

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

damn athiests

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously -

I didn't include 'None'. For the sake of this poll, lets say that voting for

Humanity's Team

Consitutes a vote for 'None.'

B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

Neo-Confucianism
New Confucianism

lol

HI DERE, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

I sometimes have nightmares that I become Mormon again by accident!

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

No Urantia :(

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

Lots of the more popular cults are missing.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

Am I correct in guessing that Lollards aren't as fun as one would expect?

StanM, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

Went with Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis bcz it looks good on a resumé.

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

I sometimes have nightmares that I become Mormon again by accident!

Does that happen a lot in Idaho? Would wearing a Jack Daniels necklace over top of a string bikini ward off the LDS?

B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

Not by accident but people do return, yes. There was a hilarious myth in Idaho Falls that if you quit being Mormon, if you dug up a jar of earth near the Snake River & kept the jar in your house, you would never want to become Mormon again. I want to see this tested on Mythbusters.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

shafi'i, maliki, hanbali and hanafi are schools of thought/law within Islam rather than religious sects. as in, I'm sunni of the shafi'i school of thought. although like most people here, "practice" is a bit of a stretch so prob no point voting either way.

Noting an absence of Jedi.

Roz, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:17 (seventeen years ago)

wheres scientology?

sunny successor, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

cult

The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

No Bokononism, Movementarianism, Subgenius, or Discordians either.

Or for more 'real' religions, Dianetics/Scientology, Wiccan, or Eckankar

Quakerism?

snoball, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

The odds of dying that way are pretty good if you're handling snakes.

Abbott, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:56 (seventeen years ago)

not if you have the power of the Holy Spirit to guide you

latebloomer, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

Man, fuck that. I'm not going anywhere NEAR a drunk snake.

B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

The Jewish section is a little bizarre. Orthodox V Modern Orthodox V Haredi V Hasidic, should really be three categories at most. Not four. Of course, I think Reform V Orthodox is really philosophical differences, not religious differences. But that's probably debatable.

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

I think having "Protestantism" as a category, and then having a bunch of Protestant denominations as a category, is a little confusing. Also, not having general options for major religions, for people who aren't committed to a particular sect, made me answer a bit dishonestly.

Still, impressive list.

Maria, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

Mordy, I was thinking of you the other day because a friend of mine is starting a teaching job at Y.U. this fall. He's not Jewish at all.

jaymc, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

I've been into the Druze and Sikhs lately

ha, not in the minds of many orthodox (they're "lol fake jews").

Jordan, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

jhøshea, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:20 (seventeen years ago)

no need to practice anymore, i've perfected one.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

Not to mention all the different Chassidic sects we could include if we really wanted every mutually exclusive Judaic group; Belz, Bobov, Breslov, Chabad Lubavitch, Ger, Satmar, Skver, Vizhnitz. C'mon all you Skverer Chassidim - you know you're disappointed you had to vote in the general Chassidic category with all those Gerer heretics.

Mordy, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

What department, jaymc?

English

jaymc, Wednesday, 28 May 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

I was born a pentecostal snake handler and i'll die a pentecostal snake handler I used to be a black Pentecostal (much funkier), but no more I still handle snakes though.

I consider myself Catholic in the cultural sense; I go to church twice a year with my mom, attend the Feast of the Assumption block party in Little Italy, eat pączki on Fat Tuesday, and put St. Francis medals on my cats. Not the pray-the-rosary-and-burn-down-Planned-Parenthood sense.
