some other gay man in the room has to be flipping his lid over this

will it be like Spanking the Monkey without the jokes?

sexyDancer, Friday, 30 May 2008 14:27 (seventeen years ago)

this looks terrible. if that kid was my son, and I was julianne moore, I would not go to work on his willy.

trailer, btw: http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/savagegrace/trailer/

this movie was the best gift julianne moore was ever given. you must see it immediately.

this is a wonderful movie by a great writer, with strange and gorgeous set-pieces but a bit of (huh, how to explain? ... uhh... 'elegant' direction that forces some of the juice to be squeezed from story for lack of time/space) and it is more like murmur of the heart than spanking the monkey.

“Does he fuck you up the ass? He thinks it’s very manly. I think it’s quite the opposite!”

that scene took my breath away

I was just googling for information on this and was pleased to find an article that started with the line Much to my family's chagrin, I've always been sort of obsessed with incest.

Roeper and Wilmington had remy's objections.

I saw this today (it's on IFC on demand if anyone else has comcast cable). It's alright. The final scene is pretty perfect actually; the rest of the movie is kind of a drifty mess. it certainly seems to aim for (and partially nail) a sort of late 60's hazy vibe ala zabriskie point (okay admittedly I'm blowing that out my ass, since I haven't seen it, but I imagine that's what it's like) when they're just hanging around in spain with no shirts on. but the movie is woefully short of context; unless you know more about it and read up on it, parts of it make no sense. like the fact that the son is schizophrenic, no signs of which are really present until the very end. it's not helped by the fact that he's not a very good actor.

also it's a bit weird to read here that gay men should be flipping about this; am I meant to believe all gay men had sex with and want to kill their rich mothers? maybe i'm misinterpreting.

anyway it's worth renting for the last 20 minutes.

also, spanish girlfriend is pretty but her spine looked like a stegasaurus

I saw this earlier this week. I wanted to take it as a black comedy, but the rest of the audience was just sort of "meh." In the end I could only enjoy it for J. Moore's wardrobe.

Is this the first halfway decent thing she's been in in a while?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Sunday, 22 June 2008 08:27 (seventeen years ago)

'children of men' was her last proper role? (also 'i'm not there'.) so, no, she was in two of the best films of the last two years.

banriquit, Sunday, 22 June 2008 08:31 (seventeen years ago)

she's barely in "i'm not there".

the gay men thing is because i just assumed gay men would relish watching julianne moore revel in her textbook histrionics.

i have to be upfrot, i plan on seeing this again. shelling out another 10 bucks + popcorn. this is the extent of my admiration for julianne.

it is totally black comedy, and a lot of the yukks come from the most uncomfortable moments.

remy bean, Sunday, 22 June 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)
