do you just love pernod?

i was at an art thing where pernod was the sponsor so that's all they were serving after the beer ran out. they served it with orange juice, which sounds odd, but was kind of tasty.

I have never tried pernod. I am a baaaaad boozehound.

My dad is a chef and uses it for cooking kind of often. I believe it's in some sauce or something.

i had a sazerac with pernod not long ago, it was good. (real sazeracs use absinthe, but most bars use pernod.)

our college barman once played a prank on me and mixed a cocktail with 50% pernod, didn't matter what else was in there, it was genuinely undrinkable

thats the beauty of it! no one drinks this stuff regularly but they should cherish it when they do xp

I got into Pastis in the South of France where it's ubiquitous, but I think it really is an acquired taste for most Americans. The only way I ever take it is 1 part Pernod or Ricard to 5 parts ice water. It's pretty great when it's hot outside and that's really the only time i ever have it.

Sorry guys, bad experiences and all. I'm sure it's lovely when you dilute it adequately but that concoction was simply unacceptable as a form of liquid sustenance, recreation, or even ballast.

There are differences between them, but Ouzo, Pernod, Ricard, Absinthe, Herbsaint, Arak, and Sambuca are all anisette liquors.

Pernod just reminds me of Ivan the Mod at school, producing a bottle from under his Parka, and swigging from it while waiting for the bus home. We were 14. Nasty stuff.

Yeah, Henri Bardouin is good, but Pernod is NOT a classy drink. Around the time that they banned absinthe in France, during WWI, I think, Pernod and Ricard made a version without wormwood, with more sugar and less alcohol, and since that's what I first had, it's the flavor that I expect.

My southern French uncle has a pernod and water at 7 pm every day, and so do I when I visit him. It's good, but it's a geographic-specific thing for me, I only want it when I'm in the south of France.

I appreciated Pernod more once I learned the proper way to drink it: once you've drank every drop of alcohol in your house, including the cough syrup, then you sip on the Pernod. While crying.

It's a great summer drink indeed, with icy water. While playing pétanque, to truly live the dream. I had one in Bamako where they served it with coke ... it was unexpected to say the least and not very good at that. I remember holiday spent camping with friends where we permanently had a bottle of Pernod cooling off in a stream nearby. Good times.

The balls aren't as heavy and in bocce you're rolling them on ahard surface whereas in pétanque you lob them underhanded, mostly, and the ground isn't groomed.

Ricard is superior to Pernod. The Henri Bardouin is a little on the sweet side for me. If you want to get friendly with Pastis, take a trip to Chez Janou in the Marais in Paris they have over 100 varieties.

Best Pastis (Anisado in fact as it was from frame) though was made by a friend's father.

As a proud Greek Cypriot I would like to say that ouzo is by a stretch the finest anisate.

Seems just about every nation on earth has its own aniseed alcoholic beverage except Britain. Unless I'm missing something.

OK aniseed derived booze seems to be a Mediterranean thing:

French = pastis
Arabs = arak
Turks = raki
Greeks = ouzo
Italians = sambuca/galliano
Spanish = anisado
