After the results are in I may have to send this to Google to allow them to reevaluate certain choices that they have made rather unexpectedly if I do say so myself but whatever I mean they are a company and they can do what they want but if they do not pay attention to the needs of their customers then pow they can be delisted from the Nasdaq like a snap of the fingers you know what I mean?

Any impulse I have to vote for the original is based on it greeting me at my browser. Incumbent. Will have to think. And maybe eat a steak if I can afford one.

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 2 June 2008 00:44 (seventeen years ago)

jhøshea, Monday, 2 June 2008 00:47 (seventeen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 2 June 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

Because it was terrible and a terrible idea.

i voted for the old one because i am a traditionalist

SeekAltRoute, Monday, 2 June 2008 03:00 (seventeen years ago)

Old one is really rubbish tbh, and i do like their allegedly amateurish logo, drop shadow 'n' all. New one is unexceptional though, needs more colours.

ledge, Monday, 2 June 2008 08:49 (seventeen years ago)

where is abstain option

ledge, Monday, 2 June 2008 08:49 (seventeen years ago)

what was our new favicon again?

Will M., Monday, 2 June 2008 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

lil' neddy

jhøshea, Monday, 2 June 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe I don't like the new one because it looks too much like http://www.honorrollonline.com/Assets/Images/Companies/GeneralMills.gif

jaymc, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

the new one is stupid, mainly because it's a lowercase letter and only ever seen next to a load text which is a different font, color, alignment its just wrong aesthetically atleast a capital letter in a square can standalone somewhat.

Jarlrmai, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

i hate the raised button aspect

it looks too much like the guardian's favicon

Armed with this slick new "lil g" my favorite search engine is no longer the Google I know... it's not the Google i'd like to know.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 8 June 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

I'm profoundly disappointed by this development.

the old was like "im google and i have a fuckin 'G' for my favicon now get over it" and the new is like "hey guyz, like my new manbag?"

Theren is no emoticon for what I am feeling!

libcrypt, Monday, 9 June 2008 01:05 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't like the box around the old one that much, but sorry, the new g is for gay.

Hurting 2, Monday, 9 June 2008 01:42 (seventeen years ago)

I was never a fan of the box around the old G, but now I see that it did serve a purpose, because the new lil g with no background looks pretty lost on firefox 3:

libcrypt, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 01:57 (seventeen years ago)

Old skool style.

SeekAltRoute, Tuesday, 10 June 2008 02:06 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Couldn't they have made a big G transparent, kenan?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:31 (seventeen years ago)

they already have a big G though. they can't make another one if they already have a non-transparent one.

michael, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:36 (seventeen years ago)

tbh though looking at their other design options i'm glad they went with what they did

just not sure why they decided to change in the first place

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 04:56 (seventeen years ago)

The translucent shading on the new g is very poorly executed.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 05:28 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, why are favicons still so freaking tiny? They're already .ico as a standard, there should be multiple resolutions available...

Nhex, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 22:53 (seventeen years ago)

it has to do w/the size of the address bar - there is another larger favicon size - dont know who supports it tho

jhøshea, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 22:58 (seventeen years ago)

Because this:

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/9145/favicobiglb4.png

Looks really stupid.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:06 (seventeen years ago)

looooool

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe I don't like the new one because it looks too much like

For Stevie Wonder and you maybe. I mean, REALLY.

I like the new one.

stevienixed, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

But favicons show up a lot of other places now besides the tiny address bar space - your bookmarks toolbars and menus, online/offline RSS readers, soon to be coming web-to-desktop-app thingies (Mozilla Prism, Safari's getting one too) and the ugliness problem needs to be corrected at some point, better sooner than later.

Nhex, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

it's down to indidivual companies, not the standard. you can use a proper multi res/colour .ico as yer favicon.

ledge, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 15:51 (seventeen years ago)

these results are such typical react against the new bull. new one sucks but less than the old one.

blueski, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

I made some favicons for my last company, with lovely fat 3d 32*32 versions, but it looks like they've binned them for a one-size-fits -all. I think most people just don't know about the multiple image properties of .ico.

ledge, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

.ico files can have multiple resolutions in them xpost

krakow, Saturday, 10 January 2009 19:03 (sixteen years ago)

That multi-color one is even worse than the original "wimpy g" favicon.

Viceroy, Saturday, 10 January 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

I have that new 4-color G. Am getting Win98 vibes here.

I like it.

Live from the Witch Trials (SeekAltRoute), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

The Gg favicon minus the 3d-fx would have been good except that it's biting Adobe.

 (libcrypt), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:33 (sixteen years ago)

The shading on most of the contenders ruins them.

 (libcrypt), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:34 (sixteen years ago)

I like the guitar picks, esp the one with no G.

The Way of the Diamond Spirit (Oilyrags), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

I like the guitar pick (arrowhead) on the right as well. The one on the left doesn't work well with the G superimposed. The G-less guitar pick favicon isn't a very good choice, however, since there's nothing strikingly googlish about it.

 (libcrypt), Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

I'm agreeing that a Gg would have been good. Like its Googelium!

Viceroy, Saturday, 10 January 2009 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, but Adobe is already on that tip:

http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/6035/imageuploadimagecx4.png
(Not quite the Adobe icons, but close enough.)

 (libcrypt), Saturday, 10 January 2009 21:14 (sixteen years ago)

don't mind the new favicon, nice to have more colour and the previous ones weren't great anyway

i quite like the white g on blue tho

always thought the Adobe CS ones were done as a 'we don't really have any ideas after that proposed photoshop ident got panned' rush job
