HI DERE, Monday, 2 June 2008 16:15 (seventeen years ago)

I saw the first two sets of the game, dunno how it ended. Really tight game, as the score so obviously shows. I've been watching far too much of this inste

Hmm, alt + enter mistake. I've been watching far too much of this instead of working ;_;. Watching Monfils vs Ljubicic right now.

Jibe, Monday, 2 June 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

maria sounds like she needs to eat a lot more fiber

did we say goodbye to guga yet?

gabbneb, Monday, 2 June 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, back in the first round.

HI DERE, Monday, 2 June 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

funny i was just thinking about this thread this morning. pissed that they're not showing roland garros on tv here this year (well they are but i don't have cable) and was missing the ilx commentary.

Roz, Monday, 2 June 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

Sharapova was just one point from victory at 5-3 in the second set before her game wierdly slowly collapsed and Safina battled through to eventually win 6-7 7-6 6-2. Kinda strange to watch.
Shazbot may have lost but at least she doesn't have Paul Heaton's face, like Safina.

DavidM, Monday, 2 June 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

hahaha Monfils won! yay

HI DERE, Monday, 2 June 2008 19:19 (seventeen years ago)

is Nadal still in?

CaptainLorax, Monday, 2 June 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)

oh yeah, found a ladder
ESPN Men's Singles Ladder

CaptainLorax, Monday, 2 June 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)

Of course Nadal is still in, pitilessly thrashing his opponents (I felt sad for Nieminen the other day). Hasn't lost a set yet. He probably won't be threatened until his potential semi-final against Djokovic.

Jibe, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

other thread is here:
Roland Garros 2008

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

lolz Monfils STILL in it!

also kudos to Safina

HI DERE, Wednesday, 4 June 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

woot ivanovic!!!!

HI DERE, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, happy for Ivanovic, I hope she wins on saturday. Also, Djokovic has extra incentive to beat Nadal tomorrow : if he does, he will become 2nd in the ATP rankings (well at least that's what I heard the TV commentator say). I wish Djoko could win, but from what I've seen Nadal doesn't seem likely to give up a set, so losing a match seems out of the question.

Jibe, Thursday, 5 June 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

zomg DINARA SAFINA is in the final. That's just hilarious. She's had an easier draw than Ivanovic, and is surely going to be pwned.

This isn't on TV here :(

edwardo, Thursday, 5 June 2008 23:38 (seventeen years ago)

uh, she had Sharapova and Dementieva, Ivanovic only had Jankovic

HI DERE, Friday, 6 June 2008 02:20 (seventeen years ago)

...so I guess you're right

HI DERE, Friday, 6 June 2008 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

Sharapova on clay.. LOL.
Dementieva and her serve.. LOL :(

Though I have to admit I still feel for Dementieva the tennis-fan equivalent of someone's thoughts about their abusive, alcoholic husband/wife five years after leaving them. Oh Lena.

edwardo, Friday, 6 June 2008 03:51 (seventeen years ago)

Really, it's an indictment on the women's game, particularly the supreme gutlessness of half of them that Sharapova can mince all but the top players on a surface she's shit on.

edwardo, Friday, 6 June 2008 03:51 (seventeen years ago)

Ivanovic is #1 now, no?

gabbneb, Friday, 6 June 2008 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

Yup, Ivanovic will become #1 this monday, regardless of whether she wins or loses on saturday (hope she wins though). The winner of her match against Jankovic was sure to become #1. Today is gonna be awesome, I'm staying in front of my TV all day long.

Jibe, Friday, 6 June 2008 09:37 (seventeen years ago)

Spoiler?:#1 seed vs. #2 seed in the mens finals. This is the game I've been hoping for.

CaptainLorax, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:20 (seventeen years ago)

anyone know when it will be on T.V. here in the U.S.A.?

CaptainLorax, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

Don't mind who wins the women's title, slight preference for Ivanovic, but you gotta love Safina's run.

Hoping for Federer but its useless really...hopefully Djoko to knock off Nadal next year to give Fed his chance?

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 June 2008 12:16 (seventeen years ago)

most people are rooting Federer. Wry?

CaptainLorax, Saturday, 7 June 2008 12:44 (seventeen years ago)

He is a good guy and handsome to boot.

wanko ergo sum, Saturday, 7 June 2008 12:46 (seventeen years ago)

Well, if you're not a fan of the guy I'm sure its annoying, but its easy enough question to reason out. Fed is the best player I've ever seen in my tennis-watching life (about 15 years or so) and it would be awful for him not to win the French open.

In general, I liked when Nadal was challenging and beating Fed on clay -- its one of the great sports stories where the best player ever can beat everybody with ease bar this one guy in this one surface but now Djokovic has come up, the dominance isn't there anymore...

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 June 2008 12:54 (seventeen years ago)

will Federer manage to beat Nadal on clay BEFORE Nadal beats him in one of the other 3 Grand Slam finals..

Ludo, Saturday, 7 June 2008 13:18 (seventeen years ago)

Nadal has beat Federer more often than Federer has beat Nadal.
Ivanovic was so beautiful today.

CaptainLorax, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

Ivanovic was clearly the better player today. She was so calm even during that 7 deuce game while Safina was practically yelling out loud after every other point. Also, did Safina really call Ivanovic's family "annoying" during her microphone stint?

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

I also hope to see a lot more of Monfils.

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 7 June 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

Safina did, apparently! I sorta stopped listening to anything after seeing Henin handing out the trophy...

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 June 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

daaammnn

gabbneb, Sunday, 8 June 2008 15:09 (seventeen years ago)

well that was over quickly

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 8 June 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

That was torture! Congrats Nadal, he is quite extraordinary in his own right. Who would bet against him ending Fed's run at Wimbledon?

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 8 June 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)

Uh, me?

wanko ergo sum, Monday, 9 June 2008 13:02 (seventeen years ago)

that was one of the most impressive displays of tennis I have ever seen (and I've watched a good deal since, say, '84). to make a man look who may go down as the best to ever pick up a racket look that foolish on the court is astounding. (granted it's not Federer's favorite surface, to put it mildly, but still). I'm so stoked for Wimbeldon. They better both make it to the finals.

Granny Dainger, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

"Uh, me?"

Yeah I would bet against it happening too, BUT I would bet that if anyone is going to end his run it'll be Nadal.

Alex in SF, Monday, 9 June 2008 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

"granted it's not Federer's favorite surface, to put it mildly"

Thing is, he's actually pretty fkn good on clay -- won atp titles on it (beating Nadal in a final in one of them), reaching the French open final three times in a row...its not like Sampras or Becker who could never figure out clay, or a clay courter who simply doesn't know what to do on grass.

Which enhances Nadal's achievement.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 9 June 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah I would bet against it happening too, BUT I would bet that if anyone is going to end his run it'll be Nadal.

lol Djokovic.
