[18] In the book, she goes on and talks about her homosexual friends, and said today's homosexuals, "jiggle their bottoms, put their little fingers in the air and with their little castrato voices moan about what those ghastly heteros put them through." She says French politicians are, "weather vanes who turn left or right as the fancy takes them... Not even French prostitutes are what they used to be." She says modern art has become "shit — literally as well as figuratively."

Bardot expressed support for President Charles de Gaulle in the 1960s.[6][14] Her husband Bernard d'Ormal is a former adviser of the far right "Front National" party.[7][14] Bardot has been convicted five times for "inciting racial hatred".

I've never been a big fan of France's hate-speech laws but Bardot has been a tedious, racist loon for ages, now.
― Michael White, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:38 (sixteen years ago)
she sounds pretty awful. but it bothers me that you can get convicted for racism, too.
― Maria, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:42 (sixteen years ago)
doesn't bother me (SHOCKER, I know)
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:45 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah young pretty girls with nice bottoms would never be that racist.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:47 (sixteen years ago)
Maybe just a little bit racist.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:48 (sixteen years ago)
xp Not racism - inciting racial hatred. You can be as racist as you like.
― Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:48 (sixteen years ago)
just not a good starting point for the hate speech/free speech debate
― bnw, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 20:50 (sixteen years ago)
Matt, I think the bone of contention here is that only a blind person or a seriously deranged oldie-ogler would call the person in that second pic a "sex kitten".

I don't have a lot of trust in the French State or judiciary to oversee racial incitement laws equitably and I never see why it's a good idea to give Bardot or Dieudonné or Le Pen the honor of being 'persecuted' by the State (in a country that has a checkered past at best) when a simple refutation with humor would make them look ridiculous already. If Bardot thinks that the Aїd is barbarous, go ahead and make the case. Instead she ruins her own argument with artless and witless attacks on a religion as a whole and on a whole immigrant population.
― Michael White, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 21:00 (sixteen years ago)
i see "kitten" in thread ---> i click. wtf are all these women doing here?
― Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 3 June 2008 23:02 (sixteen years ago)
Not to open up an old debate or anything, but Emily was clearly not being racist, just very stupid.
Whereas Bardot is a racist, misguided loon.

Phenomenal pic of Bardot in her better years.
It's bad news when a government starts prosecuting crap like this. Seems like a slippery slope. And for the French gov especially, that's pretty rich.
