..or have any other over-used advertising 'catch-phrases' seeped into modern badinage?
And how crummy is it?
― Mark G, Thursday, 5 June 2008 09:34 (seventeen years ago)
Please tell me this has not happened to you
― Tom D., Thursday, 5 June 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)
I have kids. They say things like "ON! OFF! ON! OFF!" and "Dutch?"
They have not used the "I'm confused dot com" construct.
But it hurts to hear someone else say "I'm confused" and have my brane insert "dot com" afterwards. I don't actually come out and say it, but.

My 79 year old auntie said this at the weekend! I think she was trying to be hip.

One time at work I told a coworker to "calm down" and I was accused by someone of "stealing my phrases!" But he assured me that it was okay and that he would hand his phrases down to me when he quits.
Thanks.

Put it this way.
Amber and Alice were arguing about sharing ice cubes. (Amber had none, alice had four). So, Alice gives her one of them.
Amber: "Can I have another one?" Alice: "Unlucky!" later.. Amber: "Can I have an ice cube?" Alice: "Unlucky again." little later Amber: "Can I have that last one?" Alice: "Oooh, LOOK! There goes Unlucky aGAIN!!!"

What is "confused dot com"?
― The Reverend, Monday, 9 June 2008 08:43 (seventeen years ago)
Never heard it, never heard of it. Is it an advertising catchphrase or something?
― Pashmina, Monday, 9 June 2008 08:48 (seventeen years ago)
yeah.
Must be a regional thing then. In the south, we get teh bombarded.
― Mark G, Monday, 9 June 2008 08:56 (seventeen years ago)
Alice: "Oooh, LOOK! There goes Unlucky aGAIN!!!"
"There Goes Concorde Again" is in a TV advert? I noticed that (a version) of a Flying Burrito Bros song is being used in a Magners advert.
― Tom D., Monday, 9 June 2008 08:58 (seventeen years ago)
No, it isn't. I was more saying that they pick up things from myriad sources, so it's just a matter of opening them to a wide range of stimuli, not just "stopping them from watching telly, or at least the 'commercial' channels" as some parents do.
But, that's for another thread, sure.

That "awwww yesh" thing used to be Lard's catchphrase on The Graveyard Shift, but where did he get it from?

Derek Guyler, the caretaker on "Please Sir"
― Mark G, Monday, 9 June 2008 11:21 (seventeen years ago)
Deryck Guyler was a well known wargamer, and was a founding member of the Society of Ancients, a group of wargamers specialising in the classical era. Very active in the society in its early years, he was later made an honorary life president of the society.
