My first Doctor Who thread/poll! So participate, or i'll hunt you all down and read Target novels in a horrible accent whilst you try to nap!

`Kippers for breakfast, Aunt Helga?
Is it St. Swithin's Day already?'

`'Tis,' replied Aunt Helga".

Interesting...

Rewatching Arc it isn't nearly half as bad as the reputation it seems to have developed. Gut instinct says Enlightenment though.

Well it has to be Five Doctors, but more for the others than Davison, although he's still pretty good in it.

Erk. Nyssa looks more like Mel.

Snakedance, for spooky snake action, though Enlightenment and its space sailing ships was fine.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 19 June 2008 10:11 (seventeen years ago)

overall, though, is this series not the best?

Snakedance is weird, due to the tranny new romantic and tegan returning to her annoying mode.

I have not seen any of these since 1983 (except 5 Drs on DVD, it suuuucked) so I refrained from voting for Kings Demons, which my inner child was shouting for (NEW ROBOT COMPANION)! Even though he was really lame when the episode finally screened here, I remember the excitement. There was going to be a humanoid robot who could react and walk and talk and stuff! Then it turned out he was a pile of plastic that had to be propped up against a wall and was voice-overed.

oh wow I just googled and they axed him because the genius software designer died, not because it was arse and didn't work! good work JNT.

Someone has pointed out Davros = DAVid Tenant + ROSe.

OMG

Can't really remember these as I haven't seen them since I was a kid, but I remember the snake one being scary.

Colonel Poo, Monday, 30 June 2008 11:47 (seventeen years ago)

Martin Clunes in makeup will do that to a kid.

seven months pass...

Watching 'Resurrection...' now. This is one of those stories where you get really get the sense of the show being influenced by outside sci-fi(the set-design, the troopers in armor, the kaled attacking those dudes facehugger/Thing-style, etc). For all the Doctor's talk about not liking guns, it's interesting to see when he actually packs heat(usually blasting at Daleks/Cybermen, of course, but there you go).

As usual, the bleak industrial outdoor scenes shot on film look far better and hold up that the studio video.

Terry Molloy is pretty classic, and how I think Davros should sound; but that might be b/c I've heard him play the role so much in the audios. This spin-off audio series is great and worth acquiring:

I got the boxed DVD Davros set for Christmas -- has all the old-Who stories with Davros in them, plus about 9 audio stories with Davros too--have got through all the TV stuff, but must attend to the audios!

For all its faults, the last series finale got Davros spot-on I thought.

Plus his teeth were even more horrible than before.
