Hello Mr Douglas,

A friend of mine (Jordan) called in to your show a couple months ago about his 1998 Ford Taurus - he was hoping to convert it so that it would be able to run on vegetable oil. Unfortunately, his mother passed this June 28th, & it is only within the past few days he's returned to his interest in his car, which was always his second love. He has put an enormous amount of work into it. Anyway, he told me that he called in to your show about converting to food-based fuel but when we went to look for the episode yesterday it would not play? He had it written down & I believe it was episode 228. I was wondering if it would be possible, if you have a copy, to email it to me or him (he says is on your email list). He thought asking you would be too much of a hassle but I figured it was worth it to try. If not, no biggie.

Thirty-eight years ago, the federal government nationalized passenger rail lines, creating the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, better known as Amtrak. At the time, it was expected to be profitable within three years. Almost 4 decades later, the original $340 million investment of public funds has grown to $30 billion, with no profitability in sight. General Motors was Forced to declare bankruptcy by the Obama Auto Task Team. No matter how much the President spins GM's bankruptcy as good for the economy, it is nothing more than another government grab of a private company and another handout to the union cronies who helped bankroll his presidential campaign. President Obama will now own 60 percent of GM, and his union buddies will own almost 20 percent. And what do we -- the American taxpayers --get? Now, instead of emerging leaner and meaner, GM has fallen into the same trap as Amtrak -- all to benefit the Big Labor bosses who helped Obama into the White House with union workers' dues. Since when does the American government choose the market's winners and losers? Since when does the White House decide what model of car Americans must buy? Britain nationalized its automotive industry in the 1970s to disastrous result -- the government-run, union-saddled companies were finally sold off again under Margaret Thatcher after years of dismal performance. But Barack Obama and his henchmen have no desire to learn from the past -- they are too eager to get government control of America's means of industrial production -- regardless of the consequences. Can you please see if it's there? That was one of the highlights of summer 2008 for me. HD Windshields (as I remember, three main features: improved aerodynamics, they let you watch tv in the corner, and...they never break?), tricking out Ford Tauruses...congratulating him on his well deserved success.
