I think you can count that as either carfree or infrequent depending how you view it yourself

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Didn't drive much until we moved three weeks ago. Now I travel 40 miles and across two international borders each way to get to work.

admrl, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

(okay - and own a car!)

admrl, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

I average about 2500 miles a month.

milo z, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

What percentage of that 2500 miles is commute Milo?

Kondratieff, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 06:35 (seventeen years ago)

My car is 2 years old and has 5,000 miles on it, so I guess not very much. It only gets used for errand running and occasional weekend excursions. I bike to work.

Super Cub, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 06:50 (seventeen years ago)

Car free. But I don't ride the bus either, it's all cycling all the time here.

krakow, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 06:54 (seventeen years ago)

carfree but hate the bus never get it. i stick to trams, trains and lifts.

sonderborg, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 07:11 (seventeen years ago)

fuck driving but i do it every day

the people's prince, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 07:13 (seventeen years ago)

I would like to be car-free (although I do enjoy driving on occasion), but having a baby and living in this city kind of necessitates the use of a car unfortunately.

Super Cub, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 07:36 (seventeen years ago)

yeah having a kid would be the only reason i'd probably ever get a car. lots of parents around here just stick the baby on the back of the bike but there's no way i'd be game to do that

sonderborg, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 08:02 (seventeen years ago)

What city do you live in Super Cub?

Kondratieff, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 09:45 (seventeen years ago)

voted "carfree" (as i don't have or even rent one ever), b-b-but i do must need, and take, a taxi ride now and again.

t**t, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

If you count that as carfree thats fine. I would count that as carfree. The idea is not to be puritanical. I prefer categories to be mainly self-defined with no absolutes - really an idea of where we see ourselves re:cars at this moment in time

Kondratieff, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

I used to be in the Regular category -- I drove to and from band practice twice a week (with my keyboard in the trunk) -- but now that I'm no longer in the band, I pretty much only drive on weekends. And with gas prices the way they are, I'm trying to limit that to running errands that are made more convenient by driving (groceries, e.g.) and otherwise biking or riding the CTA.

What percentage of that 2500 miles is commute Milo?

Well, uh, my 'office' is only about a mile from my apartment. So that's my commute, I guess. But the rest of the mileage is almost entirely driving from office to jobsite, jobsite to jobsite, picking up supplies, etc..

(On the upside, all my gas and maintenance is paid for including personal use.)

milo z, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

I have long work drives every day that are not public transit workable and barely drive anywhere else (walk or take the PATH train to shopping, entertainment, etc.)

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

But soon I'll be dumping my car.

Hurting 2, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)
