Once, on the front of a Lego catalog, a Lego samurai had a word bubble that said, "Help me find my awesome, cool, outrageous treasure."

Abbott, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

lego in a landslide.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

OMG how good would a landslide of lego be??!?!

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

This one is my favorite – hundreds of sub-carnival gewgaws sold by the gross. "144 WWJD bracelet making kits, only $17.24!" "22 Easter Egg dye kits (eggs not included)."

I never got the Ikea cat in the mail. Have fond memories of Lands' End and lots of other utilitarian-type clothing catalogs, complete with technical diagrams of all-weather outerwear and lots of details about specific fit- or quality-testing in the margins.

Also I can admit I was a SUCKER for the J Peterman. A total sucker.

Lillian Vernon. Lots of tp cozies other old people stuff. I used to love it when I was a kid.

La Lechera, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

ARRRGH MATEY!

I lol'ed.
Voted for "Other", because CPC insist on sending me a catalogue every week it seems, full of all kinds of electronic and computer components. Random picks:

SATA to IDE Adaptor
LED Penlight with Laser & Level
Bolt Cutters

etc blah blah blah

Basically everything you need to upgrade a computer, build a house, or commit a B&E...

have fond memories of the sears and jc penneys catalogue when living overseas as a kid, so much awesome american shit. i especially enjoyed browsing through them to create my xmas request list. i think i asked for a rock tumbler every year (never got one)

n/a, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

i LOVED the johnson-smith catalogue.

lauren, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

Amanda, YESSSSSSS to Lilian Vernon! Every third item was made of Lucite, plus there were metal frames to keep the sheets off your feet at night, and soap-chip presses, to make your slivers of leftover soap into a WHOLE! NEW! BAR!, and children's dress-up costume boxes (clearly meant to entertain grandkids), and collar-button extenders, and pill boxes -- somehow I never fully realized that every single thing in there was aimed at an over-70 demographic, it all seemed so reasonable and practical.

Laurel, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

Like "DUH, of COURSE my cat needs a fuzzy upholstered shelf for watching birds out the window because I'm too rickety to play with her anymore!"

Laurel, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

"Decorate your entire house from ceiling to floor with these charming decorative house frogs!"

"Stop worrying about the hairdresser and wear this lovely terrycloth turban!"

I remember forcing my mom to order "incense matches" from that catalog.
