Well, this is literally what is meant by the word "Asian," it's just that in the U.S. most of the "Asians" you meet have traditionally been East Asians, just as in the U.K. most of the "Asians" have been South Asian, and so the term carries those respective connotations.

Note, there's no longer an unambiguous, unracist single-word epithet for East Asian comparable to "Anglo" or "Hispanic," though maybe there needn't or shouldn't be.

(The word "epithet" does similar double duty, funnily enough.)

As a national candidate, Jindal is nothing but downside - he's a generic crazy rightwing christian nutbag, but isn't white and thus is gonna turn off at least *some* of that base. The racist-in-a-different-way GOP leadership likes him cause he's brown and obv. that's all it takes to be president these days, but I don't see him getting far in the primaries.

Jindal is, like any other good candidate, a good communicator. what's gonna hurt him is not the color of his skin, but the fucked-up things he has at times communicated.

don't think going mano-a-mano against the most popular man in America is gonna be great for his image either
