Special effects maven Stan Winston apparently has died at age 62. Dude was THE go-to guy for creature and makeup effects in the sci-fi/fantasy genres for many, many years. Created the version 2.0 creatures for "Aliens," the original "Terminator," the dinos for "Jurassic Park," etc. and still managed to be cutting edge to the very end, handling effects work for "Iron Man."

Stan Winston was wonderful. He really knew how to create some primally freaky monsters. The dog-thing in "The Thing" still disturbs me! Rest in peace.
