and i have since compared it directly to the mach 3 & it is not even close

FUSION 4EVA

HI DERE, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

RUH-ROH

we may have found threadkiller :/

most of the people i know are still hooked on mach 3 (or variations thereof, SAT the turbo is still part of the mach 3 family)

deeznuts, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

mach 3 turbo only

all the rest are fail

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:42 (seventeen years ago)

oh btw the last gig I played gave us free fusions in this "thanks for coming" giftpack so catch the vapors of my free gillette fusion

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:43 (seventeen years ago)

my contract specifies that I be paid in razors because I am JUST THAT EMO

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:43 (seventeen years ago)

that's the bullshit w/ batteries? it makes a difference?

wilter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:44 (seventeen years ago)

it doubles as a vibrator for daredevils

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

ahh makes sense

wilter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

wait is fusion battery powered??? if so IT IS EXEMPT FROM CONSIDERATION FOR THIS THREAD

this is NOT a thread for pussies who need electricity to do a man's work

deeznuts, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:50 (seventeen years ago)

the electricity is only there to power a heat cell that keeps your hand warm while you shave, it's quite posh

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

NEITHER OF THESE HAVE NEARLY ENOUGH BLADES

404 Error: Page Not Found, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 02:58 (seventeen years ago)

there are basically 2 acceptable answers for all of you mocking the schick quattro:

i) i have never in fact used the schick quattro
ii) my barber shaves me with a brush, hot shaving cream, & a straight razor

otherwise stfu

i tested the mach 3 turbo literally side by side with the quattro. it is not even close.

deeznuts, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

I have shaved with both

you just don't know how to use the mach 3 turbo right so for guys like you they made the quattro

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

Are they comparably priced btw?

wilter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:11 (seventeen years ago)

o i probably forgot jd lemme look at the instructions -

"directions for how to use the mach 3 turbo 'right': shave 3 times over the same area it take you to shave over with the quattro 1 time"

wilter im not sure what the razors themselves cost but id guess theyre about dead even, i know the cartridges are what they kill you with & yeah those are comparable

deeznuts, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:17 (seventeen years ago)

look let me make this simple, sure 4 is a nice number but what is faster, 4 or TURBO

I put it to you man

J0hn D., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

Fusion isn't battery-powered, it's FIVE BLADES OF FURY

HI DERE, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

i hate shaving and therefore refuse to vote for either of these

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:23 (seventeen years ago)

gillette 'mach 3' is a reference to the sr-71 blackbird, the fastest ever heavier-than-air vehicle mankind even constructed, achieving a top flightspeed in excess of mach 3: ie, mach 3 TURBO

schick 'quattro' is a reference to the gillette 'mach' 3, & implies that it exceeds it, acheiving 'mach' 4; because the gillette mach 3 suggested a peak velocity of mach 3 & the sr-71 upon which the name was based in fact achieved mach 3 'turbo', but failed to acieve mach 4...

the quattro is the superior blade.

please, anyone, defy me now.

xp HD is lying

deeznuts, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 03:26 (seventeen years ago)

tried quattro and it gave me worse shave why because the blades are duller end of story go back to the masters fuck i'd buy mach 5 it even if it did have a perp blade

libcrypt, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

I have gone in reverse and now use a cut-throat razor with disposible blades.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 09:22 (seventeen years ago)

why can't they invent a razor that stops the water running down my forearm, is what i want to know

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 09:36 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't shaved this morning because I didn't want to take the time yet I apparently have enough time read a whole thread comparing the schick quattro and gillette mach 3

FUSION

My shave today is so smooth I actually feel less wind resistance

mh, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

i still think the best multi-blade razor gillette ever made was the original sensor. it's so much easier to wield, you're able to be a lot more precise, and the blades don't clog or dull as quickly. the smaller head just makes it easier to use. anything more than 2 blades just seems bulky and a pain in the ass to me -- they're all to big to be able to shave along with the grain of the hair, especially in areas like the neck where the grain grows in different directions. even the sensor excel isn't as good as the original sensor.

the original sensor is also much cheaper than any other gillette razor on the market.

i haven't tried any schick razor. i remember the old schick tracer looking kind of crappy.

Mach 3 is some uneven-sideburn-guaranteeing bullshit.

rogermexico., Sunday, 22 June 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

i have never used a quattro, but a mach 3 took a disturbingly large bite out of my chin a couple weeks ago so i won't be voting for that

circles, Sunday, 22 June 2008 02:36 (seventeen years ago)

mach 3 fusion was actually pretty good but I ain't exactly looking for novelty when I shave

J0hn D., Sunday, 22 June 2008 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

mach 3, although i can't say that's out of anything other than sticking with what i know.

Mach 3 is some uneven-sideburn-guaranteeing bullshit

yeh. i usually shave up to somewhere near my 'burns, then use a variety of attachments for my electric trimmer to finish it off properly. i usually shave only a couple of times a week (i am absurdly stubbly but fuck it) so it's not too much of a PITA.

ed: what brand/price/etc that bad muthafucka of a thing? because, really -- especially for the sideburns -- that's what i need. only problem is i can pretty much guarantee i'll end up cutting off my fucking head.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 22 June 2008 12:33 (seventeen years ago)

mach 3 fusion was actually pretty good but I ain't exactly looking for novelty when I shave

-- J0hn D.

where 'novelty' = 'improvement'? the fusion is not part of mach 3 lineage. it is an entirely separate animal, seeing as how it has 5 blades instead of 3. maybe you failed to notice?

my friends, this is exactly the kind of ignorance i am trying to fight here. thank you so much for listening attentively.

deeznuts, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

Just bought a new package of Mach 3 blades, and are they making them pre-dulled now, or what? Leaves stubble even after four, six or more passes. The edge of the cardboard box is probably sharper. Marketing whore that I am, I will be trying the Quattro.

Dan Peterson, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

it doesnt make you a marketing whore, it makes you a sensible human being!

id much rather be the type who's willing to try something new than a blindeyed brand loyalist. maybe the mach 3 WAS a great razor, at one point in time. maybe that was relative to that point in time or maybe it was relative to this one. either way, its the past. the quattro (and, to prove that im not 'schilling for schick', i would guess the fusion as well) are the now.

deeznuts, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:54 (seventeen years ago)

I missed a spot this morning on the left side of my jawline. clearly time for a new razor.

El Tomboto, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

i have determined mach 3 is still right for my face

ladies quattro for my legs ;)

cutty, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

I am on my last Quattro blade and will probably have to go back to disposables as I cannot afford to pay like $9 for 3 blades.

wanko ergo sum, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

thank you posting an honest evaluation cutty, & for giving the schick a chance!

that is also a sensible response. maybe the mach 3 IS right for certain faces. but for most? fuck no.

xp yeah i agree that part blows wanko, but its not really a factor in mach 3/quattro determination

deeznuts, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

i like the narrow blade of the mach 3... i seem to get more precision out of it.

cutty, Monday, 23 June 2008 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

dude I tried the quattro! it didn't shave my face as well, and it felt kind dollar-store vs. the mach 3 which is well-designed. I'm guessing yr answer to that will be THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THE BLADES but not to me. design matters, the mach 3 has a better feel especially in the way the head pivots.

J0hn D., Monday, 23 June 2008 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

sometimes when i use a new mach3 razor, i so much as touch it to my face and the beard is gone

Surmounter, Monday, 23 June 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

I know! once I had a mach 3 turbo that shaved me while I slept. fucking awesome razor.

J0hn D., Monday, 23 June 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

Oh god, I'm watching a vintage SNL episode from 1977, and they're making ... a triple blade razor joke. Man, these jokes are ancient.

deeznuts, Sunday, 17 August 2008 04:47 (seventeen years ago)

I really dislike this crop of overengineered razors. Maybe it's just that my face grows whiskers like a 6-year-old, but I really prefer the shitty, bog-standard disposable type. Easier to control, and I get a better shave.

Millsner, Sunday, 17 August 2008 05:10 (seventeen years ago)

have you really given these so-called 'overengineered' razors a fair shake? i used to be like you. but the fact is with these supposed models of corporate excess we're talking: i)rotating heads which greatly simplify jawline shaving, ii)one & done strokes, iii)a precision blade for sideburns, & iv)(at worst, & i mean that) a -halving- of total shaving time. i shave as little as possible, & like a decent stubble: a quality blade is invaluable to someone like me. millsner, please consider the fusion, or at least grow the balls necessary to take that leap over the disposables - i don't think you'll go back.

deeznuts, Sunday, 17 August 2008 05:16 (seventeen years ago)

Do you get a commission, nuts?

libcrypt, Sunday, 17 August 2008 05:20 (seventeen years ago)

I've only really given the Mach 3 a 'fair shake', but I suppose I could try it again.

The big trouble spot for my is my jawline, especially in behind, because it's very sharp and juts out a little. With a disposable razor I can manoeuvre the blades in there quite easily, because its head is smaller; the bulkier Mach 3 with its rotating head actually ends up being more cumbersome.

Millsner, Sunday, 17 August 2008 06:18 (seventeen years ago)

I really dislike this crop of overengineered razors. Maybe it's just that my face grows whiskers like a 6-year-old, but I really prefer the shitty, bog-standard disposable type. Easier to control, and I get a better shave.

You know how your grandpa used that weird old safety razor...

(This is actually true, btw - research bears out that dudes kinda stick with what they had in their 20s, which is why e.g. Sensor is still on the market despite now being two generations behind.)

rogermexico., Sunday, 17 August 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)

No doubt that's true, but I'm still in my 20s! Lots of razor decisions to make yet.

Millsner, Sunday, 17 August 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

research bears out that dudes kinda stick with what they had in their 20s

true for so many things. oh so many.

Aimless, Sunday, 17 August 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

I went to a footie match recently and they were giving away loads of Shick Quattros, so I snagged a bunch to perform a test.

You see, I've been avoiding anything over 2 blades for ages. I always thought that the Sensor Excel (not the regular Sensor though - gotta have the aloe strip!) was the best shave ever, and all this 3/4/5 blade business was simply marketing gone mad. Plus these new-fangled blades are crazy expensive.

So I try the Shick Quattro. And you know what? It's a damn good shave. Better than the Excel, I have to admit. I have pretty rough stubble and an awkward neck/jawline, and it managed really well. The angle of the head took some getting used to, but I like the amount of pivoting it does. And there's the little single blade on the other side too (so it's really five blades?). I've kinda skipped a step going from 2 to 4 blades, so I should give the Mach 3 a try. Or dare I jump right to the FUSION?

I'm through the looking glass here, people.

Rob Bolton, Monday, 18 August 2008 13:59 (seventeen years ago)

I don't care if they have to cram the fifth blade in perpendicular to the other four, just do it!

libcrypt, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

oh btw I changed to a fucking quattro.
shit is a++++++

wilter, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 01:52 (seventeen years ago)

brains hangin (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 28 February 2014 12:17 (twelve years ago)

I'm happy with Fusion. Definitely not happy with the way their products start to suck after a couple of years on the market.

how's life, Friday, 28 February 2014 12:32 (twelve years ago)

I only go with O.G. Mach 3. It gives me a smoother shave than the Turbo.

I didn't realize that Fusion has five though. I'll have to pick them up the next time I'm at Wal-Mart.

Mach 3 Turbo feels better than Fusion imo, though it feels like they don't last as long as they used to - maybe Gillette letting the quality slip to force M3 loyalists onto newer models idk.
