It's Beck's Nitemare Hippy Girl amirite?
She took me off my guard with disappointment I got sucked inside of her apartment Shes got dried-up flowers, flaky skin A beaded necklace and a bottle of gin
Shes a nightmare hippy girl With her skinny fingers fondlin my world Shes a whimsical, tragical beauty Self-conscious and a little bit moody
Its a new age let-down in my face Shes so spaced out and there aint no space Shes got marijuana on the bathroom tile Im caught in a vortex, shes changin my style
Shes a nightmare hippy girl With her skinny fingers fondlin my world Shes a whimsical, tragical beauty Uptight and a little bit snooty
... oh, oh, oh ...
Shes a magical, sparklin tease Shes a rainbow chokin the breeze Yo, shes bustin out onto the scene With nightmare bogus poetry Shes a melted avocado on the shelf Shes the science of herself Shes spazzing out on a cosmic level And shes meditating with the devil Shes cooking salad for breakfast Shes got tofu the size of texas Shes a witness to her own glory Shes a never-ending story Shes a frolicking depression Shes a self-inflicted obsession Shes got a thousand lonely husbands Shes playin footsie in another dimension Shes a goddess milking her time for all that its worth

They know exactly what they are doing. I imagine part of the fun of being a hot Swedish indie girl is that you can make indie boys jump through all sorts of ridiculous hoops in the hope they will get to have sex with you. Such as making them read comics called 'Bobo's Adventures In Fashion'.

Swedish indies girls have inverse taste for sure
― vaqueros, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 10:13 (seventeen years ago)
My former housemate had a girlfriend just like this and she was ace and we're still friends even though she and Tom split up. She is a truly lovely girl and taught me how to make Swedish-style semonlina porridge with cinamon and gave me my favourite ever nickname (Docka - it's the Swedish word for doll.) I will not hear a word against quirky Swedish indie girls.
So, yes, we made mobile phone videos where our fingers starred as worms and drew on each other, but you know it's a lot more fun than gazing wall-eyed at the television all night.
(Matt, I have a feeling you may have met Maj at a party of mine actually?)

Jeezo. The clip was fairly low on analysis and context. You'd think this^ might've been worth mentioning
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 September 2008 10:15 (seventeen years ago)
there might be a very good legal reason why the two stories aren't being linked. i really wouldn't want to speculate too much.

― right, we all start when the drum machine starts, lads (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 September 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)
That did occur to me, but then it also occurred to me that the same reason might also apply to showing footage of the alleged perp doing crazy shit
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 September 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)
hang on, this is obvious:
- footage of running across road etc was only released AFTER that first trial had finished- but this murder business is a new trial at which, er, a swedish woman who happens to have the same name and could well be the same person (that OK, lawyers?) has been charged- so whole thing is still sub judice; any previous charges shouldn't be mentioned
... despite the fact there's footage pertaining to one offence ALL OVER THE FUCKING INTERNET :)
jesus, the law in this country really is in need of some substantial overhauling.
― right, we all start when the drum machine starts, lads (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 September 2008 10:36 (seventeen years ago)
so i suppose, wrt your comment about "same reason might also apply" ... the problem here is simply that the legal system hasn't yet caught up with youtube etc/video on demand! ideally that footage should all be taken down again -- but how the hell would that be policed?
― right, we all start when the drum machine starts, lads (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 September 2008 10:38 (seventeen years ago)
It couldn't be, they'd just have to make sure that the jurors weren't aware of it. Widespread as the footage is, that wouldn't be that hard - if Peter Tobin/various bomb plots/tabloid villain of choice can get still get fair trials after widespread publicity, it won't be hard to do the same for quirky swedish girlfriend
I don't think it's YouTube that's the problem, it's more that Greater Manchester Police (or whoever it was) have obviously been dying to release this crazy film, but didn't think to check whether that was ok with their fellow law-enforcers - i.e. what were once staid public service organisations now whore themselves out for publicity
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 29 September 2008 10:47 (seventeen years ago)
and Youtube and the Police is one thing, but this was on the BBC !
― Mark G, Monday, 29 September 2008 10:51 (seventeen years ago)
OK, that's two things, but still...
it's more that Greater Manchester Police (or whoever it was) have obviously been dying to release this crazy film, but didn't think to check whether that was ok with their fellow law-enforcers
good point: does that "this is staffordshire" article predate the release of the footage? i've no idea if it was common currency by september 12 or not (and i can't be arsed looking).
what were once staid public service organisations now whore themselves out for publicity
good point, well made.
― right, we all start when the drum machine starts, lads (grimly fiendish), Monday, 29 September 2008 11:11 (seventeen years ago)
does that "this is staffordshire" article predate the release of the footage?
I think so. This only seems to have come out last week, seemingly to advertise Traffic Cops.I don't know if the police are completely happy about this coming out. It seems to me that they look a bit foolish in it, esp when the one woman does the escaping from the law by getting out of your coat trick. Having said that, you wouldn't get me tangling with crazy people on the hard shoulder of the motorway.
