I made a whole song as a kid about "ironing my way to the win" (success, the bank, etc.).

I used to use the iron to keep my 500's nice and flat if I was winning to rub my opponents faces in it.

Dog, train, car and boat all move IRL so were fun to move around the board, handbrake turn the car into just visiting.

Top Hat is the king, it had weight and is a style icon as indicated by the fact the dapper monopoly man is wearing one.

i was always the car as a kid, but top hat wins on aesthetics and tactility

apparently i did not play with the deluxe edition. also, i do not recall the battleship.

The cheapo edition we have only has hat-iron-dog-boot-car-boat. I can't imagine playing Monopoly with twelve people, how long would it take? And we play "last man standing" rules.

I second this. Also, I don't think I ever thought of our ship as a battleship. It looked more like a barge. We lost the racing car quite early on.

My sister always got to be the Scottie dog. I agree that that top hat is classy and the true winner, but for some reason I always ended up being the iron and retain my affection for that downtrodden piece.

My family's was missing the battleship for so long that I completely forgot that was even a piece!

A movie about people playing Monopoly could be really good.

I can't fuckin' believe horse and rider only got one vote! I always thought it was the best piece by far. Maybe this explains why everyone always acts so baffled whenever I grab the horse and yell "the horse is miiiiiine again!"

Lots of respect for the thimble, though, that's my second fav.

I love the dog, everyone loves the dog, but I used to get stuck playing Monopoly with my money-obsessed brother, who usually opted for the cannon or the top hat. So I always chose the car, noting that it is action-oriented and says that he shouldn't mess with me.

In order: top hat - roadster - iron - boot - thimble - dog

I don't recognise the others - though wheelbarrow is quite cool, and if full of money certainly beats the sack of dosh hands down

The best thing about the iron is it is one of those old stick-it-in-a-burning-fire irons. It's made of metal, and maybe some v tiny person could actually use it to iron if they had a tiny fire and some tiny wrinkled clothes and a tiny ironing board.

When I was a kid I had the idea of replacing the houses and hotels with lego bricks. Never did it, but a single game would probably have been extended to several days in length.

man I just played this for the first time yesterday, except it was the Disney edition. I chose Dumbo because I figure he could just fly willy nilly all over the board instead of being confined to the boring ground-dwelling linearity of cinderella and snow white et al.

we also played monopoly deal, a card version which is vastly better because you can actually WIN convincingly.
