the answer is no btw
if you were allowed to use firefox you could use adblock to do this
but with IE the only good way to do it AFAIK is to be an admin

content advisor tab in options, add the sites as never allow, set a monstrous confusing password that will be a pain in the ass to enter

content advisor requires an admin login unfortunately :(

it is not pron, i just need to bore myself into doing work at my job that is extremely boring to me at this point. so boring that even internet message boards seem more interesting. i bascially need to eliminate distraction.

Can you edit this file:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

If so, add in entries for all of the websites you usually go to that follow this pattern:

127.0.0.1 www.ilxor.com

Basically, you will be redirecting all of these websites back to your machine, rendering them inaccessible.

i can see that file, but i don't have anything to open/edit it with

bell_labs, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:32 (seventeen years ago)

Any text viewer.

svend, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

if you can save changes to that file you should fire your "administrator"

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

Try opening it with notepad.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)

also yeah, what TOMBOT said

HI DERE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

Thing is though, if you can set these changes yrself, whats going to stop you undoing them later when you get bored?

setting up barriers is what helps me kick addictions

This is exactly my own problem of late, bell labs. I can only salute you for trying to remedy it, without knowing how to help you exactly.

i just started a thread about this recently - I was trying to find out if any of those net-nanny type programs are worth using.
