oh god i saw a poster for that film on the tube yesterday and wished i could un-see it
the title has to be one of the worst in film history, for a start
― Just got offed, Saturday, 12 July 2008 09:11 (seventeen years ago)
I took a while to understand the line at the top. I thought it was telling us she wasn't going mental, though her life was A, T and PS, and I couldn't see why we needed to know she wasn't going mental.
Terrible title.

would c on ts
― RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 12 July 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)
lol kidding ... seriously though, what's snogging?
kissing.
is the title meant to be a pun or a riff on something else? i really can't work it out.
i saw a trailer for this the other week. it looks absolutely fucking vile. also, without wishing to sound like some PC choad, "going mental" is a bit ... borderline offensive?
― grimly fiendish, Saturday, 12 July 2008 11:39 (seventeen years ago)
at least, it is in the context of a film poster.
maybe it's just that the entire existence of this film offends me.
― grimly fiendish, Saturday, 12 July 2008 11:40 (seventeen years ago)
based on this book I believe: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51T9B8933QL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
I've seen it places. Guess they can't use the term "full-frontal" in a film aimed at tweens.

I dunno about striped socks, but at least in Finland striped stockings are often a signifier for hippieish, non-cheerleader types in real life.
― Tuomas, Saturday, 12 July 2008 11:58 (seventeen years ago)
For no good reason at all I want to agree and say same for America, but in actuality I can remember cheerleader types in high school wearing stripey socks.
― RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 12 July 2008 12:02 (seventeen years ago)
Maybe it's the color scheme of the stripes...
― RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 12 July 2008 12:03 (seventeen years ago)
did valerie bertinelli wear them on odaat? she's back to being smashable too these days
― tremendoid, Saturday, 12 July 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, I think it's like: wild, colourful stripes = hippie, black with red or white stripes = goth.
(x-post)
― Tuomas, Saturday, 12 July 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)
Btw, even though it's a cliche, striped stockings are usually a total turn-on for me.

― bnw, Saturday, 12 July 2008 16:53 (seventeen years ago)
Sure those books have a sassy grasp of how the teenage mind works (well, a certain, very cliched kind of teenage mind), but I wouldn't imagine a presentation of this mind to be the most edifying, amusing or even comforting of material. That expression you supply isn't by any means an original, arresting analogue for shaving, but a cutesy throwaway expression that if you thought of you'd keep to yourself. "Operation" anything is a very common junior-school way of putting any sort of endeavour, surely?

Other than the socks part, this fits
ha. i watched juno last night; there's a shot about two-thirds through where she's lying on the sofa that begins by tracking down past her stripey socks. i thought about posting to this thread. then i thought: "nah, it'll all have descended into lunacy about 65DoS and corrie street, so fuck it."
now, however, i am stuck at work till midnight so these things become almost worth dredging up from the sump of my memory.

OH WAIT LOL
I read the first Angus book back when I worked in a bookstore, maybe six years ago - can't remember anything whatsoever about the story but I remember finding it charming and fun - it pulled off its faux-tween ohmagawdd-ness without sounding continuously phony. Suspect it might grate on me more now, but whatever, I'm kinda glad they're making a movie out of it. The title change is awful though.
