trial by jury was cool for being home on friday nights in 6th grade

and then summer vacay and those memories faded

never mind i am confusing trial by jury with something else. i thought trial by jury was a non-drama look at the trials of irl cases

the thing im thinking of was on nbc and came on after svu way back in the day on fri nights

I remember it. They ended up on late-nite CNBC a lot too.

Man, I just learned from this article that Dick Wolf has made about $750 million off of these shows.

Mr. Wolf and the Universal executives had better luck at NBC, which premiered "Law and Order" in the fall of 1990. Before it aired, Mr. Wolf made one change. Compared to everything else on television, "Law and Order" moved at a lightning pace, with no scene lasting more than two pages. This was giving test viewers whiplash. Mr. Wolf added a "chung chung" chime and inserted a location card between scenes to let viewers take a breath.

the most brilliant part of the series is that the crime is always the first scene. ropes you in immediately.

I love SVU and as is generally known Mariska can't get enough of me but the original is the best by an outrageous distance

The first five seasons (basically, the Logan era) of the original series are among the best in t.v. drama history period that I can think of.

Ooh I made a mistake. Blatantly should have gone for the original but I'm dedicated to CI. Alsos, what the hell was Homicide Life On The Streets? I thought that was an L&O show while Trial By Jury was just a bizarre spin off. Was Homicide a rip off?

i like mariska hargitay and think she is uncommonly beautiful but i am too creeped out by svu to watch.

Homicide I think might have had behind the scenes people in common with L&O (hence all the crossovers, and John Munch going directly over to SVU) but it based on a non-fiction book about Baltimore written by the later creator of The Wire. They were both "dark cop shows" compared to everything else on the air, but Homicide was a lot more character-driven, relied more on continuity, and is probably more similar to NYPD Blue (and definitely The Wire).

You guys last night I saw a reality show called "Jail" that was done L&O style about the dudes that run the holding pen at night. It was amazingly terrible.

My answer to this question had always been the original Law And Order. Big George Dzundza fan here. I loved Paul Sorvino. And Jerry Orbach, forget about it! Dan Florek as the police captain was the best of the Law And Order police captains. I was sad to see him go from the original series but was happy to see him return on Special Victims Unit. Terrific actor.
