Gok Wan always manages to sound completely insincere no matter what he's saying.

i mean, i'd be pushing it to say i hated Gok's Fashion Fix but the whole thing premise of the show just makes me mad. i like Gok okay but man, what a truly awful stylist.

problems with Fashion Fix;

if you can afford to buy some £200 dress from House of Fraser and sew £50 worth of crap on it for one statement going out outfit you'll probably never wear again then you can probably afford to buy designer anyway. ok, you might not be able to afford Lanvin or McQueen but you could probably stretch to Mui Mui and you can probably wear the Mui Mui dress 20+ times.

the idea that high street fashion is about trying to imitate what high fashion is doing rather than it being a separate thing to itself (maybe that's the culture now? that's another problem)

Gok's outfits are shit and look cheap.

You just have to see it, I don't know how to stress how deflated the whole enterprise is enough. Most people look completely untransformed and they have no idea how to use editing or music. It's so cheap looking too.

Gok's show did provide the best laugh of the week when the camp "stylist" (aren't they all?) walked into a wall at the end of the runway.

Brix = VERY good at dressing her customers, also married to the guy who set up Woodhouse, hence Shoreditch fashion mini-empire. He does START for Men shop across the street.

another problem w/ the premise is that even if you think Gok's a good stylist, the message it puts across is "if you have the fashion nous of a top stylist, YOU TOO can look high fashion at high street prices!"

But I like Gok! His positivity is a RAY OF LIGHT against the black holes of incessant dickness and negativity usually present in that kind of show (or so says his press pack. No! I really think that). And while How to Look Good Naked may have never tried to deal with the mordibly obese, it did have one person who'd had a mastectomy, which is a bolder move than the usual easy targets of makeover-style shows.

"Fashion fix" is a must in the house as Wife and kids are all total experts and voiceopinions all the way through. Often, they do say "What is the point in allthis though?"

i find myself increasingly tolerant of this kind of stuff. merdeyeux OTM about gok's positivity: i like that a lot. and any programme with brix on it has to rule.

portas herself is a joy (although the programme bores me, really).

Gok's OK by me. Seems to favour sharp mod suits and winkle-pickers himself, which is always right as far as I'm concerned.

new MQoS is great. bakers , grocers, greengrocers. what a cow the woman in the baker was!
