I'm no beach bum and I love the snow, but I reckon that out of the conditions that I tend to get exposed to, heat only ever approaches extreme discomfort, but cold could cross the line into real pain.

Exactly.

fields of salmon, Sunday, 20 July 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

heat any day

although when I went to Fairbanks it was -39 and I have to say at that level of realness it gets kinda better than at -10, which is irritating instead of thrillride

J0hn D., Sunday, 20 July 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

I like both...I hate moderate temperatures...

But I think I choose cold over heat.

Aja, Sunday, 20 July 2008 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

I'll take the cold, if we're talking outdoor climate and I'm allowed to heat my domicile.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 20 July 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

I would rather die of extreme cold.

Abbott, Sunday, 20 July 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

What Rock Hardy said. Cleveland had a tough winter this year, but as long as I had a fire going in the living room and could put a sweater on, didn't bother me even a little. All things being equal, it's easier to warm up in the cold than to cool off in the heat. (Take that, entropy!)

nuclear blast vs. nuclear winter

it's easier to warm up in the cold than to cool off in the heat

Seriously. When its 105 in the shade, and over 90% humidity, you can be totally naked and still sweating your balls off.

Whereas cold can be mitigated more easily by simply putting on another layer of clothing.

Fuck rainforest summers.

B.L.A.M., Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

That's kinda loading the question though, sitting in yer shack with a fire and warm sweaters is hardly suffering from extreme cold.

ledge, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

Eisbaer's question was vague enough to allow loading and unloading.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

How about if you had to spend a day in the hottest or coldest place on earth, with only sufficient protection to avoid death or major injury (e.g. frostbite)?

ledge, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

coooooooooooooold

Surmounter, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

Cold. I could at least bundle up. I'd go insane from extreme heat.

mike a, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

It's easier to sleep when I'm too hot rather than too cold. Good old 115º day most defs calls for a siesta, as my brain & body are too melted to do anything anyway. Whereas a cold night with too few blankets means shivering pseudo-sleep like floating in and out of a cold creek all dark night long.

Abbott, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

phaal vs. very very very cold ice-cream

Just got offed, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)

So what I'm saying is if you want to avoid an extreme temperature – and sleeping is my main way of not dealing with things – I vote yes on proposition heat.

Abbott, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)

xp, ice cream headaches can be pretty bad.

ledge, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:53 (seventeen years ago)

sleeping through a high-heat/high-humidity nighty is basically impossible for me

milo z, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

whereas phaal afterburn is AWES

Just got offed, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

me too milo, ewww sweaty sleep

Surmounter, Sunday, 20 July 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

Whereas I cannot sleep AT ALL if it's too hot.

I used to live on a Hoboken brownstome block where the power would go out every time the thermometer hit 85F. It was like trying to sleep in a pottery kiln. Perhaps I'm spoiled by modern convenience, but if it's there, I'm taking it.

mike a, Sunday, 20 July 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

still think i would rather lie awake in a pool of sweat unable to move or breathe, than be curled up in a shivery ball with freezing extremities.

ledge, Sunday, 20 July 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't know motherfuckers were cold - care to elaborate? (also "Eisbaer" = subliminally suggesting an answer, are we?)

i chose heat, even though i prefer colder climates. if i was homeless, i'd prefer to live in a hot place.
