i like that feeling of slight dissatisfaction.

can the mods please exercise their inalienable rights to lock thread and possibly ban the "mr. x" troll account

Just got offed, Monday, 21 July 2008 09:39 (seventeen years ago)

Mr X was less annoying when he was Titchyschneider and starting multiple threads all variants on the same question about grime. And that's really saying something.

Matt DC, Monday, 21 July 2008 09:59 (seventeen years ago)

mr. x being titchyschneider explains quite a lot. the need to start about five threads a day on pathetic sex-angst issues, however, will never be adequately accounted for

Just got offed, Monday, 21 July 2008 10:16 (seventeen years ago)

We should do a poll: dubstep threads versus whiney personal life threads

sometimes ppl go after ppl less attractive than them because they feel like they can't afford to try and conquer a hottie

Surmounter, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

Same reason people listen to Skepta

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

Guys (and girls surely, though I've dated none) who aren't classically hot are pretty good at pulling all the stops to impress/dazzle you, so C.

"mr x" 4 prez!

Bodrick III, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:49 (seventeen years ago)

You see everyone doing it, particularly girls. It's an insecurity thing I think ... knowing you will always have the "power" so to speak. Trying to date an equal can be like a battle, but if it happens it's worth it.

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

i dont think ive ever dated someone i just flat out wasnt attracted to, but times ive been w/ someone and felt i could 'do better' however superficially always made me way more uncomfortable than if i was with someone i thought was an equal or better because i always feel real bad worrying about breaking things off like 'uhhhh ... its not you its me' nervous.gif

deej, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

How do you know these people don't find their partners attractive?

xpost

Bodrick III, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

truth bomb from ladies and gentleman mr burt stanton

and what, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

saying 'do better' sounds real superficial and dumb though, i dont mean that ive ever broken up w/ someone just cuz of how they looked, but if things stopped working out that started to enter into it more so as time went on ...

good job guys

Surmounter, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:56 (seventeen years ago)

absolutely no sarcasm intended

Surmounter, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

I'd say in urban areas with some kind-of "creative" scene, that belle laide (ugly beautiful) is actually more desired and sought after than conventional beauty.

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

only by ugly people

Granny Dainger, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

Nah, not really. I'd say Europeans are like that, too. Watch stylish French movies and chances are the protagonist is .... good looking, but good looking in a kind-of off way.

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

Pretty much almost everyone is good looking in some way, to someone, if you look at them long enough and you like them to begin with.

Laurel, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:03 (seventeen years ago)

And I mean thank god for that, because most of us? Yeah.

Laurel, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

it's true all Europeans base notions of beauty on some bullshit French cinema

blueski, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

who is a better poster burt stanton or louis jagger

uh oh I'm having a fantasy, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

Having appreciation for and "basing notions on" are completely different concepts.

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

Considering the French gave us the concept of 'belle laide'.

yeah i agree, thats sorta what i mean about how it only really makes me feel uncomfortable when we're kinda breaking up already, or the cracks are starting to show, and its just like a aggravating factor rather than a real catalyst

deej, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

This is a good place for that "boys don't care how you dress until they want to break up with you anyway and they're looking for a reason" quote that keeps coming around.

Laurel, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

And I'd say "fuck you" but it's not untrue for girls either.

Laurel, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

guys don't care, per se, but that doesn't mean they're not influenced by/attracted to how a girl dresses.

Granny Dainger, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)

I have this weird feeling that what you mean by looking "kind-of off" is actually looking "western European."

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

aka "still having specific regional European features instead of having them all combined and mediumed out via American intermarriage"

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

pussy has no face

uh oh I'm having a fantasy, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

Europeans are just as mixed as the Americans, they just don't want to admit it. Italians are mixes of Italian, French, German, Spanish, Greek, and in some cases, North African. My English side is English, yes, but if you dig into the records they're English, Irish, Scottish, French, etc.

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:27 (seventeen years ago)

lately it seems the only girls who are attracted to me, i'm not really that attracted to. :/ and i hate that mini-breakup where you have to reject someone after a couple of dates.

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:29 (seventeen years ago)

if yr not attracted to them, why go on dates?

deej, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

1) maybe they're really cool & smart? at least one of them has turned into a fun new friend.

2) something to do

3) she looked better at the bar

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

also sometimes people get prettier after a little time

Surmounter, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:34 (seventeen years ago)

yup

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:34 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I'd say I give a person a chance if they're pretty into me ... what kills it most of the time aren't the looks, but the personality. especially when their favorite band is the beatles. uhgrhhhhhhh

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:35 (seventeen years ago)

U2

this happens a lot to you?

deej, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

also it would be bad karma to flat down turn someone down, since i'd prefer that hot girls at least give me a chance.

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)

now she'll never dance with another (wooh)
since she saw burt_stanton there

estela, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:41 (seventeen years ago)

fair enough jordan, i can see that

deej, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:44 (seventeen years ago)

jesus, i can't type, i need to stop multi-tasking

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:45 (seventeen years ago)

The one or two times I have dated people to whom I was not particularly attracted, it wasn't fun and never really ended well, either.

Abbott, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 22:53 (seventeen years ago)

i was totally unattracted to my boyfriend when we were friends, until he asked me out on a date and we started spending mucho time together. 3 years later i think he's the hottest man alive and compare everyone else to him.
