fyi at the time of this movie's release, sontag had only written two novels, both of them published in the sixties.

the sontag reference always felt to me like it was pretentious nonsense much more on the part of the writers than the character, and it nearly derails the whole speech, which is otherwise pretty great

i think hollywood homicide is the only ron shelton movie i've never seen. it's a cop movie, but it's probably about baseball.

i just like dark blue so much cuz i wanna have babies with kurt russell.

i watched the famous Kon Ichikawa documentary Tokyo Olympiad once when I was high out of my mind on weed and it became a movie about the existence and survival of every living creature on the planet and i found it all to be heartbreakingly sad.

I love the part where he gets in a fight at the bar with Meat and hands him the ball to throw at him then he misses by a mile

i forgot how funny Tim Robbins is in this. just a complete goofball

Didn't care for this when it came out, never watched it again in--wow--35 years till tonight. No surprise, enjoyed it much more. I don't think it's the greatest baseball film ever made (the Ken Burns documentary for me; I'd pick Moneyball as my favourite narrative), but thought the three leads were at their best, and reading about "organization man" Woody Huyke in Pat Jordan's The Suitors of Spring recently gave me a greater appreciation of Crash Davis as an archetype. I really liked Robbins near the end pretending to misunderstand Costner: "fear and ignorance."

I watch clips of this so often on Youtube. Just a little mound visit time to brighten the day.
