I won't have the op to try the Monte Cristo that I've been dared to try.

Ai Lien, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)

The one time I went to a Bennigan's, I had the Monte Cristo. That sandwich lasted me for 3 whole days. :(

Please Lord, spare Applebee’s.

Bennigan's was the only place teenagers could go in our town to smoke and drink coffee for several hour stretches. Bennigan-and-again-and-again-and-agains. Haven't been there in the last decade though.

a friend who had a job at the Chicago one circa 1994: "I work at Bennigans. It's one of those 'hi, welcome to Bennigan's may I take your order?' kind of places."

That's some Red Lobster shit, and doesn't deserve to sniff Bennigan's jelly.

David R., Tuesday, 29 July 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

When they closed the Bennigan's near my place last week they immediately put up a sign that it'll be turning into a Potbelly. I'm happy with that tradeoff.

the biggest surprise from that article was that bonanza and ponderosa still exist.

check out how slow the Bennigan's server is right now. (I am talking about the web server.)

Bennigan's was the only place teenagers could go in our town to smoke and drink coffee for several hour stretches.

In college this was the place to go. It sported something called "the Copper Clover card," the holding of which and the consumption of 100 beers entitled you to seeing your name engraved on a plaque over the bar (that'ss the other thing: Bennigan's once boasted an impressive beer selection).

The antiques market is about to be flooded with quirky decor.

Tonight is not unmistakably Steak and Ale.

To ten-year old me Bennigan's and Steak and Ale seemed inescapably glamorous. Good times...

What town had a Bennigan's but no Denny's or IHOP?

jaymc, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

I had to eat at a Steak and Ale a couple of months ago. It smelled like it hadn't been cleaned since 1984.

milo z, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)

actually – Bennigan's was the only place teenagers could go in our town to smoke and drink coffee beer for several hour stretches.

What town had a Bennigan's but no Denny's or IHOP?

There was an IHOP in a neighboring town along an industrial corridor, as well as several old-timey diners, but they were less forgiving of obnoxious teenagers.
