What's sexier: ice maiden bitches or people being nice?

Prompted by the Gwyneth Paltrow thread. I'm afraid I go with ice maiden bitch.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Er I got major slaggings from my friends over the last few months for putting up with someone they think is an ice maiden bitch. Their conclusion was that I loved it all secretly. I don't think she's an ice maiden bitch though so I can't comment.

But yeah probably ice maiden bitch.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear grief, is this even a real question? Being nice, please. Why in the world would you want to hang out with someone who isn't?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on Ned men love that shit! Though then they moan about how they can never tell if girls like them and what a mystery we are. It is pretty masochistic really, I mean I'm only ice maideny with people I don't like so if that turns them on then they are clearly mental.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The human heart is a strange thing, Ned. You must have picked up on this from all those weird gothy records you listen to, surely?

Put in another way, some people are fucked up.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's possible for the person to be an ice maiden bitch and thus be nice.......er to you anyway.

Enough of the personal experiences though, I think I may have just stressed that "nice" is subject to opinion and sat on the fence here. yep.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh, I like nice people = I am wuss.

It's funny that some people think I am a total stuck up snob ice maiden beotch. The beotch part I don't contest, but the stuck up part is down to me being v. shy.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

from afar, i admire the ice maiden - i've said somewhere before that catherine deneuve could piss on me any time she wanted to..whether i owuld get involved, i don't know...

Queen G, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on, no-brainer. Ice maiden bitch obv.!!!!

Dr. C, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually most people I know when asked this would go "yeah ice maiden bitch", but doesn't that just sound better? I mean the whole word bitch has been sassy and cool for ages now.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know one guy who is in love with my best friend who is complete Blonde Ice Maiden Bitch. Half of the time when he says something to her she just stares at him with disgust. But he is obsessed with her. And she loves stringing him along as a source of power 'ha ha, he likes me but I don't like him, I just like him liking me'. I would feel too akward to be an ice maiden. Too many uncomfortable silences. Being nice is better, the friend I mention usually has horrible relationships.

Evangeline, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's funny how many ice maiden beotches in my ken have excused their icemaidenry as being other people's misconception of their shyness...

Ice Maidens ROCK! Queen G, you are OTM about Catherine Deneuve.

Sod nice. I wanna get carpet burns on my knees while beggin you to notice me...

misterjones, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thing is Gwyneth's the nice one. She'd lose an ice maiden contest with Tippi Hedren in no time flat.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Laydeez = ice-maiden bitches

Guys = being nice

Guys who are ice-maiden bitches I have no time for, but at least girls who are being nice can be my BEST FWEND 4 EVAH!

Tim, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I have ever encountered an ice maiden bloke. In my experience it's not a tactic they use when trying to get rid of someone who fancies them but who they do not fancy. They usually just run away & tell their friends you are a mentalist.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No they usually get pissed and snog them.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem, Emma, I am being of the business of presuming you are forgetting about gay men.

Tim, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

er not me though, I should stress.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm, I am a wuss also, I hate snooty bitches.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

being nice, i can do without paraphenalia

gareth, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, only because I do not like to waste my time fancying gay men.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to refine my answer I always get attracted to girls I think are really nice, but in fact turn out to be ice maidens.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And she loves stringing him along as a source of power 'ha ha, he likes me but I don't like him, I just like him liking me'.

You see if I ever knew anyone was doing it as consciously as this I'd probably think it was just a bit pathetic and not be so interested. It's really when it's just natural to them that it's a turn on.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I want them actually being mean and not talking to me, but messing me around and being mean to other people is fucking great. I'm asking for trouble I guess.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*blows smoke in Nick's face and stares outside at the cold, grey seagulls*

Evangeline, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who ever would have guessed men lead such bizarre interior lives?

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

snork maiden bitches!!

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have guessed Anna. They are a very strange bunch indeed. Sometimes I think they are from Mars while us women are from Venus.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have guessed Anna. They are a very strange bunch indeed. Sometimes I think they are from Mars while us women are from Venus.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate it when that happens.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

how did it happen, you have to put a space in or something. I think you're just desperate for space and attention.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I pity the strange Martian creatures.

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My shaky alcoholic's hand hit submit twice by mistake. I bet an ice maiden wouldn't do that.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You can still be a shaky alcoholic ice maiden you know. you'd be like Ann Robinson.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am NOTHING LIKE ANN BLOODY ROBINSON. Christ.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would just like to point out that I do not fancy Anne Robinson.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It can never be stressed enough. all that orange stubble.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You'd have to be an ice maiden to terrify poor Mr Greenspun into lettign you do that though.

I think Sara's trying to be an ice maiden but she appears to be far too nice to pull it off.

Graham, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Desperate for Space is a good title for a film, esp. if it features martians rather than men

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer has mentioned Tippi Hedren around here before. The only guys I know that are into her are gay, so this sticks in my mind. I like her myself, but man is she cold. She's better in "Marnie" than "The Birds", too, and she gets to wear more outfits.

Do women wear the aloof look better than guys? I'm not saying I go for totally gregarious, life of the party types, but I do prefer nice to aloof in guys. Maybe because I spent too much of my life playing aloof myself.

Sean, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It would be a better sitcom, Desperate For Space, a family of martians are forced to live in a shoebox and try and repair their ship to get home.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am into Tippi Hedren. Maybe I am gay after all. Fuck it everyone I AM GAY. Hello?? THIS IS ME COMING OUT.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is very damaging to my self esteem.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We all knew all along, etc.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't say ONLY gay men are into Tippi Hedren... but as long as this has provided Nick with an opportunity to accept himself, then I feel good.

Sean, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually I have no interest in Liza Minnelli so maybe I'm not. CORRECTION EVERYBODY: I AM NOT GAY.

People tried to a href="http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/dynamic/news/top_story.html?in_revie w_id=530141&in_review_text_id=495465">mug her last night, you know, but she fought them off with her $700 parmesan knife.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Err - as if it matters

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who ever would have guessed men lead such bizarre interior lives

May I submit to Emma and Anna that this trend is merely a male counterpart to the equally-common feminine attraction to arrogant, emotionally walled-off, manipulative men?

Nitsuh, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nitsuh, this is true to a point but reminds me of Cabbage's post where he says he likes nice girls who turn into ice maidens. An ex of mine was sweet & charming as pie when wooing me (cannot think of a better expression) & for the first few months then turned into Mr Arrogant & Emotionally Walled Off. If I had known in the beginning he'd turn out like that I wouldn't have got involved but he was being Mr Charming and I was fooled. Grr.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nitsuh, yes - that was in the back of my mind when I started the thread. I always have to remind myself when I get cross about women fancying bastards that men are just as guilty.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sur - Yeah, it was completely shitty but most of them now are ugly boring housewives or divorced with three kids and have never left Long Island so fuck 'em.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

oh GEEZ i forgot you was from the island! long island girls, i can't imagine

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

well exactly (xposts to kosuke), this was an error i've learnt from, fortunately i've been given a second chance

ok enough about me and my hypothetical romance, let's all compliment Sur! :D

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know, the boys were bad too. it's like you can't win - a friend of mine developed boobs really early and was mercilously ridiculed. the year after it was my turn to get ridiculed for not developing yet.

bell_labs, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

but yeah, omt that 99.999999% of all girls have some body image issue of some sort.

bell_labs, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

I got the not developing yet thing too.

Boy puts hand on wall and says "Hey, guess what I'm doing? Feeling up Erica!"

Haw haw haw.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

no bell i totally agree w/ that - during pubescence the boys are awful to the girls, & the girls are awful to each other

in general its way way easier to grow up as a guy, theres no doubt

xps

deeznuts, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

in elementary school everytime i raised my hand there would be like snickering in the classroom. you know cuz i was very effeminate. i hated boys so much. and i can't believe it took me this long to figure out how to be mean!

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

haha it's ok i think i'm ok now =P

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

i still haven't really developed!

bell_labs, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

But I felt but for little Ramzi. Man, kids suck.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

x-post - Yeah, me neither but I have learned the magic a good well fitted bra can work.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

So . . . nice v. mean, eh?

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

ramzi awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

haha enbb maybe we can start and ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE

bell_labs, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

the dichotomy of the day!

i know but these days i sometimes get into like the nasty boys. it's some kind of weird psychobullshit. they used to be mean, so now they're sexy?

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

ogeez louis you just typed that ;)

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

egads! i did! IMO although ppl you know to be negative sometimes have an attractive aspect, if you find someone who's hot AND positive it overrides all the carnal temptations

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

elmo OTM about shit being shared. It's hard to change from being the overly nice person, though.

milo z, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

I got mad ugly duck syndrome.

Abbott, Friday, 6 June 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

*shrugs* It's the nature of the syndrome.

Abbott, Friday, 6 June 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

jeremy waters, Friday, 6 June 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

five months pass...

I met the coldest ice maiden bitch ever a week or so ago. At a party, she came over and started talking to me, we spoke for a couple of minutes, before she suddenly looked at another dude and went "oh, that's the one I really like". My response was "pardon?", to which she replied "oh, just thinking aloud" and immediately went over and talked to him, without another word.

Cold, so cold. It was kind of awesome.

Matt DC, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:29 (sixteen years ago)

moon maidens

gabbneb, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:32 (sixteen years ago)

Tá a fhios agam, nach bhfuil? (I know, right?), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:45 (sixteen years ago)

Icemaidenbitches that are honest, don't waste your time, and aren't out to destroy you can be quite awesome

Gino-Vanellyville (Mackro Mackro), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

oh come on women like this are clearly miserable. fun if you run into them for a night somewhere but otherwise dnw

goole, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

chicks like this are way hilar if you can avoid getting caught up some mind-game BS

beyonc'e (max), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

was she inebriated or just naturally rude?

Doing you a favour mate (Dave from Norwich), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

There's an obvious (if sick) appeal in winning over someone who seems unapproachable, but the long-run returns are never worth the endless crap involved. Nice people FTW.

Yeah, that's evil but kind of awesome.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

don't think either style is intrinsically sexier than the other. it all depends on how you rock what you've got, no?

sexy doesn't necessarily mean you want to interact with someone on a personal basis. this is the concept behind many modern inventions such as movies, television, and the internet.

Edward III, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:46 (sixteen years ago)

the whole thing sounds fakey and put-on 2 me

goole, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:47 (sixteen years ago)

I like the part of this thread where pp freaks out with the maiden images

Edward III, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:47 (sixteen years ago)

altho when in college a friend of mine and i knew a girl who was extraordinarily irritating, loud, harsh, interrupted ppl w/o a care etc ...and not clueless in the aspberger fashion. i was like "imagine the hideous damage she could inflict on the world if she were gorgeous" and we both sat there in awe and horror at the very idea.
