I don't know about "pretending", but it's amazing how many of the cute ones who were super-vocal and aggro about being lesbians in their late teens/early 20s turned out to be LUGs who now have a husband, kids, and an SUV. The cute ones who, on the other hand, didn't seem compelled to constantly and publicly define themselves in terms of their sexual orientation -- those are the ones who have a girlfriend and a Ph.D.
