― latebloomer, Wednesday, 30 July 2008 23:03 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, we used to have those things in my backyard when I was kid. Just spray some Off and they stop biting.

You're all gonna feel real silly when it turns out that thing is the harbinger in a series of alien corpses washed up on the coast.
― forksclovetofu, Thursday, 31 July 2008 03:30 (seventeen years ago)
That thing is completely freaking me out. Racoon? Yeah. I don't know. Gross.
― ENBB, Thursday, 31 July 2008 03:35 (seventeen years ago)
haha that looking for a restaurant stood out to me more than the photo!
was fishing in the river mersey last night and something crazy looking rose to the surface and then vanished. Usually its just big fish but this really quite rounded and black looking. Could have been a seal we think.
― Ste, Thursday, 31 July 2008 13:06 (seventeen years ago)
Uhm, what the hell is that sea monster thing?
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 31 July 2008 13:09 (seventeen years ago)
Answer to baaderonixx..
"In fact, the "creature" is a sculpture by Tampa Bay artist Juan Cabana. Mr Cabana has created an entire menagerie of mermaids, sea monsters and aliens, some of which he offers for sale on eBay under the name "seamystery"."
― Ste, Thursday, 31 July 2008 13:13 (seventeen years ago)
how disappointing
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 31 July 2008 13:14 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, pretty good sculpture tho.

is he giving us the middle finger?
― stevienixed, Monday, 4 August 2008 21:55 (seventeen years ago)
forks, that is a great article!
And I don't mind this sort of thing too much: we get to see a lot of dumbass speculation, sure, but the immense interest that these stories generate show that people - even those not particularly interested in zoology or natural history - have a boundless appetite for mystery animals. If only there were some clever way of better utilizing this fascination.

It's a creature from another dimension!
― Ned Trifle II, Monday, 4 August 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)
I think the little montauk monster is kind of homely-cute.
― Abbott, Monday, 4 August 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)
I will tell you it is far cuter than the bloated, hairless, maggot-filled dead beaver I found by a ditch at age 10. (Do not kick such a thing if you discover it.)
― Abbott, Monday, 4 August 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)
too late
