i just doodled this at work which proves ILE has eaten my subconscious from within!! but WHO is fighting WHO? and who will WIN???

(ps thanks for stevie nixed for urgent and key technical help and advice)

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nice rack on that robot.

fritz, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I already proclaimed this "Dan's subconscious vs. N.'s image of himself. Not sure who is who, though." on the other thread. Dan was depressed.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've decided that the robot has barbed wire wrapped around its legs instead of bloomers, which makes him FUCKING HARDCORE. I am no longer depressed.

Dan Perry, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It is Cyborg Bea Arthur Vs. Beastie from Where the Wild Things Are. CBA will win because she's a robot.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This should be the cover for the ILE compilation CD. Sorry, Ethan.

Dan Perry, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The world needs more sexy robots.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I see a definate "Where the Wild Things Are" influence. I don't see a real Bea Arthur thing going on, and believe me I'd like to.

Sean, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't see a real Bea Arthur thing going on, and believe me I'd like to.

It's the eyebrows...no...actually, it's more Bert-from-Sesame Street than Bea Arthur.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, a certain Sendakness, unquestionably. At this rate the title of the comp should just be FITE!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Opening up this thread has been the highlight of my entire month -- for some reason, Mark, this is the GREATEST THING EVER. I think it's the Sendaky arms-in-air thing, which is in all instances the cutest scary pose available.

Nitsuh, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

From the looks of his chest the Dragon has a nasty case of the shingles. That robot must be some sort of cyborg doctor coming to help out the dragon. You can only get the shingles if you've had chicken pox so that narrows down our list of suspects. So, to sum up, the dragon is somebody on this board who's had chicken pox and the robot represents someone who's worked in healthcare.

lawrence kansas, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

THOUGHT!! the comp should be called FITE yes, and should be A REMIX FITE ie you do a track, I REMIX IT, i do a track, YOU REMIX IT!!!!!

ethan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've decided that, in order to defuse tense arguments, I'm going to post a link to this thread whenever I see a fight brewing.

Dan Perry, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to remix Hanley's "Argument for Sugar." Except it's in 3/4, which makes remixing a lot more conceptually taxing.

Nitsuh, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe there can be a remix bonus disc called FITE! attached to the main comp. I hear that's all the rage these days!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like those drawings. And yeah, if Nitsuh ever remixes "Argument for Sugar," Mark's drawing would be perfect as a CD cover.

When is Ethan going to finish the Bob Dylan-schtupping- a-robot drawing, anyway?

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I predict a robot victory, as the dragonsaur is too much involved with looking at his own feet.

I am still mystified about the robot underwear - 1st, why do robots need this? 2nd, if robot underwear managed to "fall down" a la those 50s cheesecake paintings a couple of weeks ago, wouldn't he be programmed to pull them back up forthwith?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it was a PAINTING, i finished it the night i posted the thread about it, and i gave it to my cousin about a month ago. i'll ask him to scan it, he's at art school and probably has lots of fancy scanners around.

ethan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually the more I look at this the more I am convinced that there really is a Bert/Ernie Ren/Stimpy kind of thing going on, wherein the big dumb lovable dragon is running over to give a big sloppy hug to the robot, and the robot is a bit cross about this given the dragon's tendency to get a bit over-excited.

Nitsuh, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That picture is clearly me "angry rage mcdragon" vs. "evil computer virus". Virus is defeated by crafty boot disk!

This picture should be included in the comp...

I have a special remix technique...I'll record a song backward onto my 4-track and add horrible noises like hoovers and the sound of microphones being thrown down the stairs.

jel --, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i wanted to look at it again

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh duh the ROBOT wins over the dragon. this represents the triumph of the super-cool *future* over stodgy medieval culture. (also what is that dragon wearing--a crown??? therefore dragon also = old-school Authority Figure! ie dud!) so the power of Sci-fi will emerge triumphant as usual. also the dragon is a goth obv. so he loses

geeta, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But but but...I believe the dragon is more representative of the future...it is obviously a cyborg powered by nanobots, the crown is an amulet of telekenesis (THE ROBOTIC MADE FLESH!)...that other thing is not a robot...it is the result of genetic experiments, crossing the DNA of ICEMOTH with that of a renegade Chickenbear.

jel --, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

where are the anal beads?

Queen G, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

where you would expect them to be

mark s, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

jel: could herr dragon be a cyborg powered by mechanical lions?! the dragon is VOLTRON!! fuck! the implications are tremendous! voltron is unstoppable obv. so he must win. but then again he could still be an old-school imperialist under his technological veneer, and the robot has ANTENNAE and therefore can detect dragon-voltron's sting-rays before the attack!

geeta, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is the Sinker test, much like the Rorsach test.

nathalie, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

taking sides: sinkah vs rorschach...

It's All In Your Mind But WHO Is “YOU”?, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

IMPORTANT POINT: they might be antennae but also they might be deely boppers

mark s, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

All your Sinkah belongs to us.

natari, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Welcome to Mark's drawing! I kiss you!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, I told you drinking shampoo is bad for you... and us reading this board.

nathalie, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dont think the dragon really wants to fight it looks more like he is laughing, but the robot is pure evil especially the eyses. the dragon just might be laughing because of the robot and the dragons tail is even bigger than teh body he would definetely win

Chuap-Cabras, Sunday, 24 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The robot does look a little like the pinefox.

Graham, Sunday, 24 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

where are the anal beads?

More to the point, where are the talking ear-testicles?

Sam, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Awww, He's supposed to be dancing.
Do the "open in new window" thing to see him as intended.
I wanted to do the monster too but it's hard to pretend you're doing serious work with a robot and monster jigging on your screen.
Why don't animated gifs work here?

Simeon, Wednesday, 21 August 2002 12:49 (twenty-three years ago)

it does work on mine!! do the monster dragon now!!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

it's great!

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why don't animated gifs work here?

It works on my screen.

Latest theory about this picture: the dragon is classic rock(ism)--large (albums) and antiquated. The robot is electro-dance-pop--smaller (singles) and modern, if rather mechanical.

But I don't know how the robot losing his bloomers fits into this theory.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

on no! FOUR HANDS! oh NO!!

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

That robot looks extremely joyful. Even with the semi-frown. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

They are dancing very nicely to the Tiger Lillies song I am playing right now.

How did the dragon get its tail trapped?

David (David), Wednesday, 21 August 2002 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

What happened to all the posts between May 29th and Aug 18th?
I'm sure I questioned then why that Robot's knickers were coming down - but j.lu I think your theory is a good answer.

Where can we ALL learn such HTML skills, dammit?

Ray M (rdmanston), Thursday, 22 August 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ray there is a sister thread on ILM: probably you posted on that.

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 22 August 2002 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure I questioned then why that Robot's knickers were coming down - but j.lu I think your theory is a good answer.

Oh now I have an explanation that fits my theory! The bottom is literally falling out of the pop market (at least it is in the United States), and the poppist robot resents that the resurgent rockist dragon is arriving to take over the limelight!

Okay, it's just a theory.
