Pile under the bed?

I always liked those downsized milk crates for CDs. It'd be useless for a large number of discs but for 20-30 it'd work.

Unfortunately they all come branded with "Kool Krates" on the side, and I can't ever fully endorse anything that's purposefully misspelled (especially when "Cool Crates" would've worked just as well).

obv not so good for the non-buying requirement, though

maybe just go into [insert major music retailer here] and ask for a few 25-CD boxes. it's rudimentary but you can decorate them or whatever if you're feeling arty.

Obviously still a vertical rack though. I guess the problem is with any number of cds it takes up a lot of space NOT to store them on billy bookcases or something.

wtf $1300 for that? It's all right angles! You could go to Lowe's, buy some wood planks, and build the same thing in one afternoon for about $25.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 2 August 2008 09:36 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone who pays that for that deserves to be robbed at gunpoint

DJ Mencap, Saturday, 2 August 2008 10:01 (seventeen years ago)

why buy any furniture at all? it can all be knocked up in an afternoon using 2x4. it will look shit but who cares?

jed_, Saturday, 2 August 2008 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

it's all right angles and TETRIS

I wouldn't pay $1300 for it but I'd sure try to build one myself. if I could be at all bothered. which I most likely can't be.

The Billy bookcase is a wonderful thing (we've got four of 'em). However -- and I'm shaking with anger just typing this -- Ikea stopped making the CD shelf inserts a couple of years ago. I finally find something that can accommodate a massive collection, and they yank it from stores.

Stack 'em all up, and play CD case jenga.

they did? hmm... maybe they've replaced them with mp3 storage solutions?

s1ocki, Saturday, 2 August 2008 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

maybe a checkered room with cd cases like the figure below. you just need enough for every wall and the ceiling probably... the way the walls are painted might be important also

dang it the spaces before the 2nd and 4th lines in the figure didnt work, but you get the idea

CaptainLorax, Saturday, 2 August 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

i bought a nice shelf for my cds but they still made my living room look like a college apartment so i just put em all in my closet

omar little, Saturday, 2 August 2008 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, this is problem one runs into when displaying records or cds, as well as stereo equipment, no matter how attractive the storage might be.

I don't think I know what these are? We've got Bennos which are the same height as Billys.
