"I've been a (function) for (lots) years and this (crime/accident) is the worst I ever saw!"

Do statements like this still impress anyone? No? Then why can every vox pop in every interview after a fire/accident/crime/somethingbad still only come up with this sentence? Seriously. In the nearly thirty years I've been reading the news these last couple of months have been the worst I ever saw.

Also: does "Children saw (something)" make the crime worse?

(if they're younger than 5-7 they don't know what death is anyway, but that doesn't sell papers, is that it?)

Nevermind, J0hn is right to dismiss this second thought.

I don't know why I notice these things all the time, but I do (I'm surprised nobody zooms in when tears threaten to appear in someone's eyes in real life) :-/

I know, it's become quite a cliché to moan about this, but I'm preparing for my old curmudgeonly man role, I think.

(oh yeah, the teddy bear/doll/toy in the picture of the burnt out/collapsed building! boo hoo hoo!)

you know, if you saw something traumatizing and somebody came up to you asking for a soundbite, chances are you'd reach for a cliche too.
