The guy is passionate. I vote C for his Superman 64 and Ghostbusters reviews...and the newest one (Batman) is a keeper too.

The problem with the Internet is that it gives everyone the illusion that they have something interesting to contribute to the world, when in reality something like 99% of the people out there have absolutely nothing interesting to contribute to the world.

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 02:20 (seventeen years ago)

that's irony, right?

guffaaaawwww

the sir weeze, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 02:22 (seventeen years ago)

which is they all need to be executed.

latebloomer, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 02:23 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think it's fair to make this guy sound like he's the Chocolate Rain guy or Chris Crocker....

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 03:18 (seventeen years ago)

This guy alternates between being LOL jaw-drop funny and painfully forced nerd-funny. The over-the-top swears and toilet humor are embarassingly lame, but when he just brings to the surface the frustration with the stupid frustrating parts of games that drove me equally insane at age 8 - funny!

Search: Ghostbusters, Silver Surfer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ("How is that fair? When you eat the pizza and leave the screen, the PIZZA doesn't come back!")

seanbaby ripoff with excessive swearing. huge dud.

Prefer these video game reviews done by former ECW wrestler Shane Douglas:

Wayne's World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH1ZwlVGPgI
Thomas the Tank Engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k08CeIfzLQg

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 12:55 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but enough time has passed since Seanbaby's heyday (like, 9-10 years years) that it could theoretically pass from "ripoff" to "influence," right?

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 12:58 (seventeen years ago)

(As evidence: ILX thread search turns up no Seanbaby-specific threads - he was already effectively in retirement by the time ILE existed!)

"using my discount at Target - because I now work there"

owwwww

Once again, I will point the way toward this:

Marble Madness Review

...and his youtube channel in general:

gdashred's Channel

Name: Bryan
I'm a college student. I go to Southwestern Community College. I was born n raised in San Diego, CA. I'm a rapper, I dont rap about any gangster bullshit like I used to when I was a wannabe. Its all about politics, social issues, and my girlfriends.

I had four girlfriends, they all broke up with me. All in the same year in 2007. None of my relationships went over 2 months, usually fail in one month.

I love playing video games. Especially old school games like Zelda, and Super Mario Bros. My favorite game series are: Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Guitar Hero.

Z S, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

This is all embarrassingly unfunny.

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 22:40 (seventeen years ago)

The problem with the Internet is that it gives everyone the illusion that they have something interesting to contribute to the world, when in reality something like 99% of the people out there have absolutely nothing interesting to contribute to the world.

This hasn't been my experience -- just about everyone knows something that's potentially useful or interesting, and isn't common knowledge. I'm willing to put up with a blog that's full of 95% crap if it has a post that talks about (say) how to fix an old NES, or whether I can find a more complete version of some little-known B-movie from the '70s, or that has pictures from Greenland on it, or whatever.

That Marble Madness review above is surprisingly stupid. I like the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of the pornographic Atari 2600 games, though.

Charlie Rose Nylund, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

yes this guy is awful. i mean seanbaby was pretty awful too. where is this secret thread???

r1o natsume, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

the shittiness of the video games themselves are often quite funny, but he really adds nothing but your standard angry-geek boy rant that lacks anything witty. Seanbaby was the same way, but his treatise on Aquaman still makes me laugh.

Gukbe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 00:46 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, remembering the impossible Turtles game means I get some minor laughs from that one, but probably less than I would if I had an actual someone to reminisce about my history of video games with (shouldn't have quit that Computer Science degree). That isn't much in the way of giving what he does some value, but I guess it's something.

Merdeyeux, Thursday, 7 August 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

y'all could manage to overanalyze chewing gum if you wanted to....

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Thursday, 7 August 2008 02:04 (seventeen years ago)

one year passes...

New Ninja Gaiden review gave me some decent LOLs in the middle just watching him struggle with the ridiculous difficulty level and impossible under-fire jumps. As usual all the play-acting stuff was 25% charmingly hokey, 75% tedious, but I thought the twist ending was a nice touch.

Of his output since the original thread, I think the Terminator game roundup was maybe the best - minimal "antics," just a string of disappointing games. Jaguar roundup and Dick Tracy were pretty good too. Stay far, far away from the Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle one.

(for the Ninja Gaiden review)

etaeoe, Saturday, 6 February 2010 00:34 (fifteen years ago)

four years pass...

This guy's funny, but I don't think I would recommend anyone I know irl to watch it. Apparently he is making a movie (dude's background is in film, b-movies, etc.) so that may be interesting. Lately he's been doing non-angry reviews of oddities and game hacks that are pretty entertaining.

Some of the Channel Awesome stuff is tolerable but it's mostly comfort/junkfood for me when I'm extremely bored. Some of these people take themselves really really seriously. Nostalgia Chick is BRILLIANT and puts a lot of thought behind her stuff, and is probably the best internet vlog/reviewer I have yet to see. She's easily the most insightful of that whole group.

one month passes...

was just in the midst of some of my typically sublime Garcia-esque cosmic guitar soloing when I noticed I was playing the Angry Video Game Nerd theme. FML.

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 01:39 (eleven years ago)

ugh, AVGN is corny but I have the fondest of memories staying with/hanging out with a friend in Atlanta (who has since died of cancer) and we watched so much of this and it always reminds me of hanging out w/ him and how rad he was

I can't say I've seen much of most of these guys but I find most annoyingly geeky and the hammed up anger incredibly tedious. Both these things are sometimes made tolerable by interesting subjects and insight but those are rare.

Although similar, Yahtzee is very different. He made me think about videogames in ways I never had, questioning the reasoning behind long accepted gaming conventions. What I respect most is how demanding and unforgiving he is, which couldn't be more different from most game fans.

I wish the comics community had its own Yahtzee, he does mention comics occasionally though.
