I need to have a party soon and I can't have it at home. Can anyone recommend a place (e.g. pub function room) that is reasonably priced, has turntables/CD players and decent transport links?

bumping as I need recommendations for something similar. probably up to 50 people, so nothing massive.
any tips?? where did you end up, Daniel?

We've had a few good parties in The Pangea Project, Stamford Hill. They wouldn't close it to the public, but it's kind of out of the way so not too many randoms (and one of the randoms was a back-flipping Hassidic Jew, which is a bonus). No hire cost, just a minimum bar spend, which we covered easy.

Downside: no rail connection.

How far North and how much do you want to spend?

Up to £100 or thereabouts, I guess.
We hired the upstairs of the Betsey Trotwood not so long ago, and that worked fairly well, but we're looking to try somewhere new.
And I'd consider anywhere North/East, if the place is right.

Ah... the Harrison would be cool. But 11:00 is kinda early.
does anyone know about a mysterious looking bar/venue nr Baker Street tube called 'Athenean Nightspot'?

I'd recommend the Birdcage in Stoke Newington, which is just up from the station and has a decent sized function room above it, can't remember if they had decks though.
Failing that I've been to reasonable parties at the Embassy Bar on Essex Road but that could be a bit big and possibly pricey.

Pangea Project is right next to The Birdcage and better IMO.

maybe we need to book both venues and have a PARTY-OFF?

Downstairs at The Hideaway could be a possibility.

In the end we went to Potion near Warren Street Station. Not a very inspiring place, but the folk who ran it were pleasant and reasonable. Or was there a disagreement over music at one stage? (There probably was, there usually is) Anyway, it's a central location and not expensive, as I recall.
The Hideaway is lovely. The Harrison is cool, as Ken says, but the limited hours scuppered the deal, I seem to recall.
Good luck.

hi,
the harrison is no longer available for hire ;_; and don't fancy potion so much (how much was it, daniel?)
my 30th weekend coincides sadly with England vs USA. This is bad. I want to find a venue that is basically central, capable of showing football and available for hire, for cheap (£100 would be great, or even better if some kind of achieve a bar tab of £££ deal as basically there will be loads of people all boozing).
Any ideas? North London not strictly necessary, central is very good..

dunno how many people you're thinking about, but the Green Man - can i say its in 'noho'? - has a nice small/medium-ish space upstairs. free to hire, i think.
they also serve some pretty goaty ciders.
