He's an awesome character actor. There was a really depressing profile of him in Premiere magazine several years ago where he was in the throes of a really grim heroin addiction (like, the writer showed up to write a simple piece about a movie he had shot the year before, and found him basically sleeping in skid row gutters. It was brutal).
