how does this product called "simply nuts" not have a single nut in it?

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

it also isn't "simple" there are like 75 ingredients including whey and msg!?

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)

TANKING U FOR STARTING DIS THREAD.

I bought a peanut butter cookie today and I think the "peanuts" in it are honey roasted. I am so grossed out by the level of sweetness in this thing. And it's a big fancy $3 cookie, I haven't even eaten HALF.

Laurel, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

a $3 cookie! now i don't feel as bad at spending $8.63 on a small soup from E.A.T. THEY DON'T EVEN GIVE YOU A ROLL, WITH THAT PRICE!

snack awesome: those 100 calorie snack packs of Oreos, Mr Christie, etc are really good and satisfying! I hate wasting money on overpackaged things but this one might actually get some of my dollars.

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

It's not totally crazy, bell, the $3 cookie is like the size of a salad plate. It's A LOT of cookie...and a lot of gross.

Jordan, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

fried apples sounds kinda great actually

Jordan, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

they're not fried

mizzell, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

they are processed, tho!

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

they're also mysteriously not brown

La Lechera, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

i mean, i appreciate the effort but can you imagine how soggy and oxidized they will be in practice?

bell_labs, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

that is why they are steeped in a special preservative brine / hfcs or something

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

ughhhhh

(xxpost) a bit of lemon juice would stop them going brown

have to say that scoop-shaped tortillas are among the greatest inventions of the last decade or so

mookieproof, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

Is anyone else getting those tubgirl-reminiscent commercials for some new Cheetos-influenced chip?

HI DERE, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

i attempted to eat apple fries at a bk in a random town in illinois, but they didn't have any

id like to imagine that they'd just run the apples through some type of corer and slicer but maybe they wouldn't be fresh at all

HI DERE, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

McDonald's - in Canada, at least - has prepackaged apple slices served with caramel sauce. EAT A FUCKING APPLE. dipping an apple in caramel sauce does not = eating fruit!

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

dipping an apple in caramel sauce does not = eating fruit!

actually it does. but it also = eating caramel.

Are you kidding? These things are insane tasty! The highlight of going to the laundromat is purchasing these things from venmachine. It's the only place I can find them.

Abbott, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

xpost -- kinda like those Nutella commercials where the pink-sweatered mom says something to the effect of "Nutella is a great way to help my kids eat healthy!"

RONG.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

Ha, wait, is Simply Nuts the one with the commercial where they keep saying "nutsnack?"

nabisco, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

"a truly remarkable NUTSNACK"

i laughed for a straight 5 minutes after i heard that one

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

Apart from the fact that I can never remember the name of the product, it's totally brilliant: nobody pays attention to commercials about nuts, so you might as well be all like "WORLD'S TASTIEST NUTSNACK" -- all eyes will dart to the screen

nabisco, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:21 (seventeen years ago)

is nutella that bad? maybe not nutritious, but actively unhealthy?

Jordan, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

maybe dipping baby carrots in nutella is healthier than scarfing a bag of doritos (albeit GROSS SOUNDING)

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

i dunno, on principle i stand against the whole mindset that you can get kids to eat "healthy" by smuggling vegetables into their brownies, or that it is okay to feed your kid a pound of cheese as long as there's some broccoli in there

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

they have those ketchup and fries at the vending machine here at work! i have never tried them, now's the time. livebloggin this shit!

carne asada, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

curious minds await your results.

strgn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)

flavor is strong!

carne asada, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't really believe it, but yes it really does say NUTSNACK

Not that the UK fares any better...

snoball, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

Elmo, dude, you don't have kids. If you did and they were two, you'd know how difficult it can be. I know kids who are three and still refuse to eat anything which is not crusty or refuse to eat green coloured food. But I do admit you are right: Nutella likes to pretend it's healthy but if you check the pot it's located near OJ and milk... THOSE are healthy, the paste itself isn't.

that stuff is srsly one of the nastiest things I've ever tasted

Red Bull, dude,Red Bull.

yeah those are good - pistachio is A+

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

(xxxpost) Red Bull is excellent. You'll be hating on Marmite next. Actually...
http://www.seriouseats.com/required_eating/images/20070815twiglets.jpg
...Twiglets, the exact opposite of a snack failure, just as long as you like Marmite, because the brown stuff on them is mostly Marmite. The one drawback is that, being salty, they make you drink more.

snoball, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

they look like they are made out of sausages!

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

which would be a good thing!

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

No, the photo is a bit misleading wrt scale, it's a small sideplate, Twiglets are the size of, er, small twigs. Maybe an inch long each. They contain no sausage or other meat.

snoball, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

Actually they do make sausages containing Marmite, but they are pretty scarce.

snoball, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

youtube doritos experimental flavor

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

nath, i don't have kids but if your goal is to raise healthy children who grow into healthy adults with a good relationship with food, they're going to have to learn to appreciate fruits & vegetables for themselves and acquire a palate that extends beyond fats & processed starches & sugars.

-- and yes, i know little kids can be horribly picky eaters as i've had 6 younger siblings (soon to be 7!). i used to be quite picky with my plate, too.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:14 (seventeen years ago)

this store near my friend's place in queens sells all sorts of weird flavored potato chips, such as chicken and marmite.

tehresa, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

(xxpost) What an irritating wanker. No-one is making you buy the crisps, beard face...

Personally I would love it if companies did this in the UK, but fat chance as everything has to be clearly labelled.

snoball, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

The mystery 'Quest' Doritos are Mountain Dew flavored. *96 tears*

Abbott, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

they taste like hint of lime, sort of. but on doritos instead of tostitos.
