This shit is heartbreaking

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:04 (seventeen years ago)

Quick, have another one.

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:24 (seventeen years ago)

Not for another month out here!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:25 (seventeen years ago)

In fact, have a bunch. In no time at all you'll be calling local kennels to see if they take 2-yr-olds.

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:25 (seventeen years ago)

well its not THE first day of school. The first day in a new class in daycare. Can you imagine how fun it is to hand your child over to a complete stranger and when she starts wailing like shes going to die of sadness and betrayal have to say, "well, gotta go!"

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:30 (seventeen years ago)

Love, she's probably already running the place. You just know that as soon as she realized you were "gone" gone, she got busy rearranging things to her liking.

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:33 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, youre prob right. Today I kind of wish we went with the daycare that has webcams.

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

I'm in sympathy with that impulse, esp because it's your first day!! But I kind of can't believe there's such a thing as a day care-cam.

People who use that after the first, like, two weeks might need to let go? Or else they don't really have enough to do at home anymore.

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

Sunny, what are you going to do with your day care time?? Is there a productive morning planned?

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:40 (seventeen years ago)

oh Beeps has been in daycare since she was six weeks old! I work full time so I cant stay home with her.
Obviously, the first day of her first daycare she was too young to be upset. Same for her first day at her current daycare (she was maybe 5 months old?).
Its a new class with a new "teacher" today and now she is old enough to KNOW.

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

and yeah the webcams are kind of overboard but ive heard about parents who call their daycare 4 or 5 times a day to ask what their kid is doing. so maybe this cuts down on the phone calls?

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:49 (seventeen years ago)

Today I kind of wish we went with the daycare that has webcams

Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon Babies

Ned Raggett, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

(Far more seriously -- I seriously wasn't thinking you were talking about Beeps at first, Sunny! I was all "Wait, wouldn't she have to be five or something?")

Ned Raggett, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

It is my first day too! I am a lil older than beeps tho.

bell_labs, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)

its worse at this age though because by five youre sick of the kid and youre all "No im not driving your lazy ass to kindergarten. Go catch the bus"

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)

awww..bell! are you nervous?

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 14:56 (seventeen years ago)

Ahhhh. For some reason I thought maybe you were working from home before, and you were only putting her in pre-school now (or something).

Haha I loved my day care but it was only two days a week. An old school bus repainted with kids playing things on the sides would come to pick me up, and on the off days I'd sit in the window and WISH very hard for it.

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

I don't know what my mother thought. She already had another baby, though.

Laurel, Monday, 18 August 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)

this should be a picture thread

cozwn, Monday, 18 August 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

poor beeps ;_;

mookieproof, Monday, 18 August 2008 15:21 (seventeen years ago)

poor, poor, beeps.

Laurel, I hated daycare for the reason most everyone hated daycare - NAP TIME.

sunny successor, Monday, 18 August 2008 15:41 (seventeen years ago)

For real!

I hope le Beeps is having a groovy time.

Abbott, Monday, 18 August 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

so how'd it go

mookieproof, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

second day included crying but no pitiful wailing.

sunny successor, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

It's all for show.

Laurel, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

No, sorry, I'm being heartless. I spent the weekend with a 7 yr old who'd perfected the art of wailing like a banshee without any actual tears or that little catch in the throat that tells you it's a real emotion. I liked him but that habit needs to get breaked.

Laurel, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

Last night during dinner, she covered her eyes and went "wah wah wah" when I tried to give her something. Doing this while peeking at me through her fingers to see my reaction. Kids do this at 17 months???

Tonight, I'm going to just sit her highchair out in the driveway and she can ask the neighbors for food when she decides she's hungry.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 20:53 (seventeen years ago)
