Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:01 (seventeen years ago)

no Heineken? what a piss poor poll

blueski, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

Carlsberg.

Never seen Tennets on tap.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:02 (seventeen years ago)

<3 harrison fridayz <3

lex pretend, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:03 (seventeen years ago)

oh yeah, in case it's not clear i was restricting the selection to those around the 4% level. should probably be titled "Piss WEAK Lager Poll".

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:04 (seventeen years ago)

i'm seeing San Miguel on tap a lot more lately.

is there no draft lager that everyone who likes lager can get behind?

blueski, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:04 (seventeen years ago)

There's some piss poor pilseners that could do with a poll

o-ess, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

Tennents, I used to drink it as a student. Good trade off between high alcohol content and cheap price. Carling tastes nicer but the hangovers are worse. Fosters and XXXX = fizzy piss leading to embarrassing "I'm burping oh no wait a second I'm actually barfing" moments. No idea/opinion on any of the others.

snoball, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

nate woolls in "never been in a pub in Scotland" shocker!

Mostly interchangeable as far as I'm concerned, I usually drink Guinness, but have been known to default to Carling if it's not available and I want an actual pint of something rather than a glass of wine or a spirit+mixer thing.

ailsa, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

I'll drink most of them except XXXX and haven't seen Tennents on tap anywhere. But I usually go for Amstel/Carlsberg/Becks/Carling. I'm not fussy.

San Miguel is too strong for this poll.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

Would probably gravitate towards Amstel for faux-continental glamour, but Carlsberg and Fosters can be alright if you're watching football while hungover on a Sunday and you want some hazy half asleep tranquil drunkenness without destroying yourself

Beck's Vier is probably the most pointless thing in the world

MPx4A, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:10 (seventeen years ago)

Carling is just fucking revolting piss, made worse by their insistence on sponsoring everything that ever happens

MPx4A, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:13 (seventeen years ago)

Beck's Vier at least has the advantage of being quite crisp, Carling and Fosters are dreadful. I haven't drunk Carlsberg since I was a student.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:14 (seventeen years ago)

Peeterman's seemed OK as far as I recall. Amstel and Carlsberg are, painfully, the two best lagers on draught in my (otherwise) favourite music venue. I really do find it tough to stoop to Carling or Fosters, I'm afraid

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:15 (seventeen years ago)

Becks', to be drunk in a shit provincial town nightclub that's still playing "Toca's Miracle" in 2006.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:15 (seventeen years ago)

Amstel's quite pleasant. Couldn't take a full pint of Beck's Vier.

Never forget. RIP.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:20 (seventeen years ago)

Any Sam Smiths' lager would own this poll by simple virtue of being a pint for £1.90 in central London.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:31 (seventeen years ago)

^^^^^^^

MPx4A, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:33 (seventeen years ago)

or £2.50 for a fancy dan wheat beer

MPx4A, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:33 (seventeen years ago)

it amazes me that people drink Hoegaarden at £4.20 a glass

blueski, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

Imagine! It's €8 for 50cl in a bar here in Paris. No wonder we're all hiding litre bottles of it in paper bags in the parks.

o-ess, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:43 (seventeen years ago)

Tennents aka. "Clyde Water" and "Battery Acid".

Was at a gig on the Renfrew Ferry a few years ago, the barman was looking for £2.60 for a pint of Tennents (at a point when, in Glasgow, anything over £2.00 for Tennents was robbery!). I offered him £2 - he assured me that his position was, in no way, a bartering job, but one of mere Dick Turpin-ism. Duly, I handed over the £2.60. As he handed me the glass, he said, "There you go pal, straight from under the boat". Hurm.

Carlsberg, Carling and Fosters are crap.

AndyTheScot, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

£1.90 a pint in London? I passed a notice in the Royal College of Music extoling the virtues of their union: "As beer approaches £4 a pint, we haven't yet hit £3."

Living my sheltered Scottish life - when the hell did beer get so expensive?

AndyTheScot, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:46 (seventeen years ago)

when the hell did beer get so expensive?

Has any proposed change to an indefinitely repeating procedure been so head-smackingly obvious that it's been implemented *instantly* with no looking back?

blueski, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 11:59 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone who selects XXXX must be shot on site.

King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 12:45 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone who regularly imbibes and enjoys one of these and is snobby about another should suffer the same fate imo.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 12:50 (seventeen years ago)

Stella was left out cos it would win, right?

Ed, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 12:51 (seventeen years ago)

Too strong!

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 12:56 (seventeen years ago)

i actually quite *like* tennent's. really.

i think they fannied about with the recipe a couple of years back -- less clyde bilge, more deep-fried mars bar, or something -- and it's actually quite a drinkable beer these days (as opposed to being honking, gassy piss, which is what i remember from my student years).

either that or my tastebuds are melting, which is entirely possible.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 19 August 2008 13:06 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Fosters = lame

VegemiteGrrrl, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

XXXX = <3<3<3<3

wilter, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

Is that XXXX brewed in Britain

wilter, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:48 (seventeen years ago)

fosters is australia's joke on the world

possibly the worst beer in existence, and i've had some bloody awful home brews

electricsound, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:53 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah I dont think I have ever even seen anyone drink fosters or XXXX here. Im sure someone does, but bleugh.

Trayce, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:53 (seventeen years ago)

XXXX Gold is popular with aging bogans.

wilter, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

All the Aussies are going to vote against Fosters - it's a tradition to hate that beer.

moley, Monday, 25 August 2008 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

Can someone substantiate the myth that the body of a worker at the Carlsberg plant was found in the vats after having been declared missing a few years previous? They found him when they cleaned out the vats, and apparently Carlsberg doesn't taste the same. This was a few years ago when I heard this story. Just an urban myth? Anybody hear a variation of this?

Chelvis, Monday, 25 August 2008 05:17 (seventeen years ago)

kinda, just the myth that Mr Labatt (of Labatt's Blue) used to dispose of his enemies in the bad old days by throwing their bodies in his vats. The story is more about how well the fermentation process dissolves bodies than it is about taste.

derrrick, Monday, 25 August 2008 06:23 (seventeen years ago)

I'd be thinking a story like "and after they removed the dead body the beer didnt taste the same!" is just some "lol carlsberg is shit" bad joke.

Trayce, Monday, 25 August 2008 06:29 (seventeen years ago)

They tried to save him after he fell in but he valiantly fought them off.

ledge, Monday, 25 August 2008 07:50 (seventeen years ago)

He got out three times to go to the loo.

ledge, Monday, 25 August 2008 07:51 (seventeen years ago)
