just to fill in the blanks, this is a "free house" garden party called by my youngest brother (16) to mark my oblivious parents' 2-day seaside vacation. socially insecure, i fear he's doing it to prove himself, and that he may be getting a little more than he bargained for

OK, important newsflash: I just had a word with him and it turns out that yes, they're meant to be coming today, BUT he might well call the whole thing off because his two older siblings have strongly suggested it's a bad idea.

TBH it was more the middle brother who put him straight. He's not scared of me. In fact, he's pretty conscientious himself, and he was probably having his own doubts, considering that neither me nor middle bro actually told him straight-up "don't do it".

It was more of a gathering than a party, altho I don't know where to draw the distinction.
