The orchestra voted to keep TV's Bradley Walsh in????!!!!!????
But he's the worst conductor ever!
David Soul made a bit of a mess of the Barber Adagio but he was obviously willing to improve.
Which just proves that it's more junk showbiz masquerading as educational TV - the orchestra were probably told by the producers to keep him in for "entertainment" reasons.
Clive Anderson's links were so bad I could have written them.
Goldie's bloody good, though.

Somehow, I would have expected Goldie to do well.
The little I saw, was of Jane Asher looking like a decorated lolly stick being shaken...

Goldie FTW - he's the only one that seems to actually care about it.

Saw an advert for this, it seems like a pretty cool idea.

Alex James is especially annoying - this whole "supply teacher who thinks he's cool and down with the kids" vibe.

Goldie is very good, yes (I have not seen this week's one yet, but very much enjoyed the first couple of programmes). I don't quite understand WHY they are kicking one out week by week - it isn't being voted for by the public so surely would be better to watch the improvement by each of them throughout the series rather than go down the same old "you're fired" pish.

Not quite; when it gets to the last two the winner will be voted for by the public.

so glad i don't pay my license fee

Jane Asher "conducting" West Side Story last night was acutely embarrassing. She seemed to think she was on the Morecambe and Wise Show or something.

"I'm making... the right... baton movements, but not... necessarily .... in the right .... order!"

Ah, so surely better to have all of them to vote for rather than only two. Maximise revenue, innit?

TV's Bradley Walsh conducts Michael Tippett? Did I write this?
It wasn't enough to save him but come on, kudos to the cheeky, roguish stand-up comic-cum-actor for having a go. I would have been extremely vexed if he'd mucked up "Go Down Moses" since it's a piece which resonates with me very deeply for reasons too personal to go into here, but it was pretty remarkable TV.
Goldie in his element conducting "Carmina Burana" for sure. Jane Asher still not convincing me that she's not mixing up symphony orchestras with Women's Institute cake baking day.

Saw a bit of Alex James, and it seems he'd got it.
Jane Asher looked more like one of the chorus having a good singsong while waving a stick, but she got a higher score.
Sue Perkins seemed to be on the right track also.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 09:09 (seventeen years ago)
Since the final vote will be down to the racist voting public Perkins will probably win. But the next time I hear the word "journey" being used in the context of a reality TV show someone's gonna die.
― Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 09:24 (seventeen years ago)
The racist voting public voted Alesha Dixon to win Strictly Come Dancing over Deano Wicks off EastEnders and voted Leona Lewis to win the X Factor over Ant Murray off Brookside and voted Brian to win Big Brother over Samanda, so on past form I think if Goldie's up against a cutesy person he might be OK. Unfortunately there aren't any cutesy people, so, um, there you go. Also this seems way more likely to be watched by Daily Mail readers, which might skew it a bit in the favour of someone who isn't Goldie.

mmmmmm, dunno. Daily Mail readers move in mysterious ways....
― Mark G, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 09:56 (seventeen years ago)
Put it this way, if he's up against Jane Asher, he'll have no chance. Anyone else though, odds on him.
Still haven't seen him on it yet.
Goldie up against Jane Asher, the baton boggles...

As it turned out, Goldie ended up against Sue, and Sue made a better hash of Beet V so she gets to wave her hands and jerk about in Hyde Park on Saturday.
