Those dolls/sacks of flour one is supposed to carry about in HS to show the responsibilities of having a baby

I was watching some girl in the park a moment ago swinging around some non-motile baby shaped thing, just heaving it around like a sack of potatoes. But then it started blinking. It was a real baby. ;_;

Okay, these are not what I'm talking about, but they are super crazy. (NSFW-ish: 'anatomically correct newborn dolls for teaching responsibility to children')

In my school you had to carry eggs (if you were enrolled in that particular class).

Oh dear god, they make shaken baby and FAS dolls.

Back in the day, when I attended HS, these did not exist. Instead the faddish thing was pretending to be blind or crippled for a day. And learning trust by falling backwards into the arms of another student, who was supposed to catch you, thus justifying your trust. In theory.

I refused to do the "falling backwards" thing in seminary, and was treated like a heretic.

when you went to PE you had to find a babysitter, and if you put it in your locker you failed

My school offered the class that made you do this. One girl in my senior English class left her flour sack child on her desk when she left the room. I took the flour sack to the band room, climbed a ladder, and placed it gently on top of a speaker. Boy, was she pissed.

In elementary school I switched out my 'baby' egg for a chocolate-filled egg to make things easier. (Come to think of it, why the hell were we carrying around raw eggs? Don't those go bad?)

there was a degrassi high episode featuring this, with eggs. it seemed to be the only episode that ever got played.

this is dumb, no way could an egg or bag of flour trigger the same emotions that looking after a baby would.

It's not supposed to trigger the emotions, it's just supposed to bring it home to teenagers what a drag it is having to lug something around with them all day.

I think we were supposed to do this in high school, with an egg, but I left it lying around at home and a member of my family cooked it and ate it. So I learned a lesson about my family and canibalism that day which scared me a bit.

well thats what i mean, you just wouldn't put the same effort in.
