Van Damme is back! Combined with recent news that the Muscles from Brussels will soon turn auteur with "Full Love," Gaumont's "JCVD," a French-language meta-movie parody par excellence, constitutes the headiest stretch of the beefy star's career since, well, ever.

ya... this movie is a little too long and a little too into teh "multiple perspectives" thing but tehre's some great stuff in it

I'm seeing this tonight. Fingers crossed.

Better than I expected! I loved the self-referential jokes...and the opening credit sequence was hilariously great. And the supporting cast was excellent. Subtitles were DIRE. Soliloquy was disarming and cool at first, but then just started to feel like a 'vanity' piece, which killed it a little. But a pretty cool flick overall.

this movie seemed a confused about what it was trying to do tho i might just be projecting a little there. some great scenes though and enjoyable enough. the soliloquy was pretty amazing i thought.

No I agree it was a little confused...there were a lot of signposts for things that never happened, or weren't quite resolved. It felt like it was building up to something other than that ending. Or something.

Well worth the $3 it cost to see this last night at the local beer theater.

It was a bit too "OMG! LOOK AT ME! I WATCH TOM TYKWER AND NO, I'M NOT GOING TO CAMP THIS UP!" Still, dope monalogue scene. C+

why movies gotta be all desaturated these days?
― tevin "ratt" campbell (Pillbox), Saturday, 2 May 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)
w/ flashback, dream(esque) and/or generally IMPORTANT scenes invariably getting run through the Photoshop "diffused glow" filter. Filmmakers, this shit is getting old.
Movie was OK. Not a complete dud, but could have been a lot funnier & was way too self-important (which may have been the actual point of the whole thing &, if so, should maybe have been done less clumsily).
