Or, you know, discus their finer points.

In short (about REC, which I watched w/out subtitles, which is probably for the best): am a sucker for Blair Witch verite, even if it's not so verite (like dude PUT DOWN THE CAMERA AND HELP fucko -- is that the new "bimbo / mimbo hears noise, goes to check it out alone" bit for 21st century horror flicks?); that "character driven" stretch between the initial spurt of blood and the hectic ending is pretty arid (and probably would've been worse if I understood the convos); the TWIST seemed (and the attic reveal was) corny, but the final 5-10 minutes (post-attic) are by far the best moments of the flick (and just about save it from being another dorky "zombie" flick).

Yes, (REC)'s ending was genuinely terrifying, even though I still don't think I have any idea what was happening* (there was a disease? But it's kinda supernatural? There was all that talk about exorcisms and the Vatican and shit, but was the reality that there was just a sick person up there?).

The commercials running now for the DVD give WAY too much away, I think.

Also, the main actress = fox.

Wait, what is "Quarantine"?

* (I'm admittedly very dim)

any horror flick that makes people whimper, scream and cry like that is doing something right.

Quarantine = US remake of REC coming out in October (starring Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter as the reporter). REC still isn't out over here (in any official capacity). And if you're irked by promo spoilers, the trailer for Quarantine spoils THE VERY LAST SHOT OF THE FILM (which, in a shocker, is a carbon copy of REC's final shot).

one year passes...

saw rec last night and enjoyed it. the "plot" didn't quite hold up (so the original skinny zombie was "sealed up" in the penthouse by, uh, locking the door? and how did the dog get infected from it?), but it was way better than most horror movies at prolonging the build up and giving a real-feeling portrayal of how people act in a crisis situation. and the skinny zombie was freaky as fuck.
