Is this in any way mandatory? Even if still friends?

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

Not at all.

cozwn, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

stevienixed, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

depends on what?

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's fine to forget really, still feel bad about it though!

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

will ye have a catholic guilt

Local Garda, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

forgetting is one thing, remembering but not getting them anything anyway is another

blueski, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:25 (seventeen years ago)

yea i thought ronan meant 'remember' as in 'send greeting' or whatevs.

special guest stars mark bronson, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:27 (seventeen years ago)

I meant remember as in send a text, be awake at any point during day, reply to gchat message without being totally preoccupied etc....

Sort of weird really, probably better not to remain friends.

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:29 (seventeen years ago)

*clink*

special guest stars mark bronson, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

haha

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

Should be the same as remembering any other friend's birthday.

Do you generally remember your friends' birthdates?

I try to, but I don't always.

That said, any friend who got all passive aggressive about it, rather than just gently reminding me, would be unlikely to stay my friend for very long. (I have a poor memory for dates.)

However, if that person had gently reminded you, and you had still forgotten, then annoyance is justified.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

birthdays i remember:

me
my mom
my first serious girlfriend (no longer in touch)
my most recent serious girlfriend (still friends)

i think that's it. i'm only remembering friend's birthdays know b/c of facebook. :/

Jordan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:44 (seventeen years ago)

I can remember my own (yep, I lied before in this thread), my husband's, daughters', parents',... That's about it really.

stevienixed, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

I put the birthdays in my iCAL but they never "pop up" so... :-(

stevienixed, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:48 (seventeen years ago)

It's quite useful that about 1/3 of my friends have their birthdays in the same two days in August. Another 1/3 have birthdays very close to mine. So I remember approximately when their birthdays are, which seems to please them.

The others... well, perhaps I don't have many friends with birthdays at other times of the year because I'm so rubbish at remembering their birthdays that they start to hate me!

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:53 (seventeen years ago)

depends on how good friends you are and what you normally do with friends.

birthday? i still remember mobile numbers

darraghmac, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)

Ha ha ha ha, I just figured out that all my friends who are born on those two days must have been conceived on Thanksgiving!

(This does not work for UK friends, but I don't know as many of them with similar birthdates.)

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 15:02 (seventeen years ago)

I was told by my ex as of a month ago, during the breakup conversation, that he would see sending him b/day or Xmas cards as 'playing games'. But he sends me occasional emails so I think he's changed his mind.

ljubljana, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 15:18 (seventeen years ago)

depends on what?

depends on how good of friends you are i would imagine. do you remember the birthdays for any other friends?

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 15:26 (seventeen years ago)

I sent a couple bday e-mails to my first serious gf, trying to feel out if it was weird or not. She responded to the first but not the second, so I quit. Still remember the date though.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

i had a dream last night that it was my birthday but i didn't remember til 4:30pm.

tehresa, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 15:51 (seventeen years ago)

If I was living in the same city I'd remember a friend's birthday. Or say, my friends I've known since I was 4/5 years old, I know their birthdays. Other than that, not really.

Ronan, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

FUCK THOSE BITCHES

carne asada, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)

Abbott, Thursday, 28 August 2008 02:48 (seventeen years ago)

I remember all their birthdays. I don't call them though. Don't want to start up that shit again.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 28 August 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

The dates of long long gone ex's will pop into my mind when their bday comes around, which is kind of weird. I wouldnt ever do anything about it tho - I'm only close friends with one ex, the most recent one, who I'm still very close friends with. There's one other ex I remember cause his bday's a month after mine, and I dont keep in touch with any others.

Trayce, Thursday, 28 August 2008 05:07 (seventeen years ago)

Come to think about it, I can't actually remember *any* of my exes' birthdays.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 28 August 2008 08:43 (seventeen years ago)

I wish I could help you
