It may already be an old topic of discussion, but I just got it on Netflix and I am hating it. What am I missing?!?!? Heard it was the bomb and anticipated a great flick, and am sadly sorely disappointed. What makes it so good according to others? Please enlighten me!

Which version, the original or the musical remake?

Hi Forrest. Just now I am watching the musical remake and I am underwhelmed. It was claimed to be all that and I seem to be missing something, finding it dull.

As the remake has its own thread let's just talk about the original here. I'm still annoyed with myself for not seeing it when it first came out way back when, just because I would have gotten into John Waters that much more quickly.

I just happen to be listening to the Dead Boys right now, and my first Waters movie was Polyester with Stiv Bators in it. I saw it in college. So when Hairspray came out I knew what it was and watched it in the theater.
Waters' greatest movie, because it works as a regular movie and a Waters movie. The love for the music really comes across. It's been too many years since I watched it, but the memory of the guy singing in the alley still touches me.

Yeah, seeing it again here I was thinking "There's your magical realism" or whatever. Just the perfect way the light follows him down the road.

the song that plays in motormouth maybelle's store when tracy and link do that kinda risque dance together is awesome but i've somehow never investigated what it's called or who it's by?

so good
my mom grew up in Baltimore. she told me that the amusement park integration protest really happened - her and my dad were both arrested there.
the Ric Ocasek/Pia Zadora cameo might be my favorite JW scene
