A sensitive, amusing and intelligent Aussie twenty-something drama or a half assed This Life rip off, or what?

I like this show, it's easy to watch...though I can't remember the characters names...prefer it to 'this life' because the characters aren't quite so aggresive or annoying. Plus it doesn't go in for that wonky cam stuff.

Not enuff wonky cam stuff

better than rehashed lifestyle programs, worse than love is a 4 letter word

Dud. That awful Kathryn Flett woman raved about it in the Observer, lest we need any more evidence, along with some horrific generalisations about Australian cultural confidence.

Kathryn Flett = minion of Satan.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 26 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Seems bad from what I've seen. Very LONG episodes too!

It's all rather derivative really - shades of Sex & the City, This Life, Capital City, thirtysomething, the Brady Bunch, Friends...but it's quite amusing and the cinematography isn't too bad even if some of the storylines are a tad predictable.

Sundays Child, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's pleasant enough. The story lines are kinda predictable, but that means it's easy 2 watch. Plus it's so sweet to watch poor Richie realise he likes dick. Aw!

Blimey! 'horrific' and a 'minion of satan'!? Oh well, I still think it beats the homegrown product hands down. It's good, confident, well-written, pacy yoof TV and there's not enough of that. Oh and for the record, I think I'm entitled to make generalizations about Oz as much as anyone, being an Aussie by descent.

Blimey. Are we going to be overrun with Guardian/Observer folks now we're in the editor?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can we start a Tash hall of fame.

Incidentally did anyone read Julie Burchill in last weekend's Guardian talking about her addiction to message boards?

Tom, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Julie Burchill = Mike Hanle y!!!

mark s, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(or possibly the pinefox)

mark s, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We are unlucky 13th on the "Julie Burchill" Google search.

If that was the real Kate Flett then I'm glad I didn't embarrass myself by putting my head above the parapet earlier and saying 'well I think she's lovely'. If you met her Richard, I'm sure you'd revise your opinion as she's perfectly charming. I know lots of psychopaths are charming, but that's not the point.

Nick, Thursday, 6 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK, I've no problem with charming and I can just about cope with being described as a psychopath. But enough about me. (How much do I owe you, Nick?)

I live in the suburb they film Secret Life.. I've seen it being filmed now three times in the last month. Just round the corner from mine, like. I rather get into it. I don't know how much of a lifespan it has in it though.

I think it is an awesome show. If anyone wants to disagree let them come to me with another prime time show with an Aboriginal woman cast as the lead. That is exactly what this country needs, more Indegenous people on the tube. Also issues such as the refugee crisis in Australia is discussed with facts and realistic, opposing opinons which is more of what we need to see in Australian drama. Futhermore the acting is of a very high standard, its a pleasure to watch.

one of them played Uncle Owen in Attack of The Clones. it would have been much better if the original Uncle Owen played the new Uncle Owen's dad. i think.

Wyndham Earl, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course SLU's derivative, Sunday's Child. It's a television program, ie a product of the most inbred and anal retentive cultural medium on the face of the earth.

That said, it's a good show, very well scripted and casted. It definitely craps all over This Bloody Life, Cold Feet etc. You actually care about the characters and they have lives and personalities which look potentially three-dimensional and interesting. The fact that there's an Aboriginal character but the show's not about her Aboriginality is a big plus, so's the fact that she is not built like Naomi Campbell and doesn't give a toss about it.
