Ethan is distraught by the lack of a gender opposite to the fat guys / skinny guys thread. And he sez I should "get on it".

Josh, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ethanp23 (1:35 AM): there needs to be a skinny vs. fat girls thread
ethanp23 (1:35 AM): josh, get on this< br> ethanp23 (1:36 AM): dum-dum-dum< br> ethanp23 (1:36 AM): i should go to bed soon if i'll be renegade grocery shopping tomorrow

ethanp23 (1:37 AM): YES
kortbein (1:37 AM): despite the large amount of fat girl discussion already on the fetish thread
ethanp23 (1:37 AM): HEY
ethanp23 (1:37 AM): you made me sound like a weirdo or something
ethanp23 (1:37 AM): asshole
kortbein (1:38 AM): hahaha

ethan, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

these message boards are always putting fucking spaces where they shouldn't be. but you get the gist of it.

ethan, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No comment. All women are beautiful. Unless they prove to be selfish, self-absorbed, and delusional without the slightest bit of charm or wit or intelligence to rescue such gauche traits. Or they like me - if they like me, I'm all theirs. I like being liked. Meesa happy. Hubba hubba.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this one too hot to handle?

Nick, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What about girls who have fat bits then thinner bits then fat bits again? i.e. sort of girl-shaped? Are they classic or dud?

Emma, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, what about fat and not very girl-shaped? *sobs*

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is clearly going to be trickier than the fat lads vs. skinny lads thread. Tread carefully... I have girl friends who are both fatter and skinnier than me so I have no preference.

Emma, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that so many girls often think they're fat when they're clearly absolutely fine kind of makes it hard to give a satisfactory answer. Are we saying Fat=Jo Brand and Skinny=Kate Moss or somewhere in between.

Personally, I don't really care whether a girl is fat or skinny - I don't really look at that sort of thing.

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

david: All women are beautiful

this sounds like a safe and sensible answer, but if i were to go home tonight and declare this then i would probably get killed. the official line will always have to be: girlfriend shaped girls= classic, any other shape of girl=dud

kevan, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kevan speaks TRUTH!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to confess terrible obesity is not attractive to me. I mean like Carnie Wilson fat. It just looks sickly. That doesnt mean I wouldnt be their freinds though. I guess I would try to mate with them if I were thier size. But as for a nice healthy J lo ass, sign me up.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't it funny how everyone was quick to choose between fat and skinny boys, but we're all cagey on the girls side of things. We've all been well conditioned by the media, haven't we?

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like girls who are about 12 / 14 - not fat not skinny.

Pete, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pete, isn't that a little young?

sorry...

gareth, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*sigh*

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And everyone breathes out a sigh of relief when they realize that Pete was talking about dress size, not age.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the official line will always have to be: girlfriend shaped girls= classic, any other shape of girl=dud.

Well, Kevan, I don't have to worry about the girlfriend thing, so I can be an Equal Opportunity Lover of the Female Form.

I would touch on the whole "people being insecure about another's feelings for them depsite plenty of proof of said feelings, you insecure schlub" thing, but I've been on both sides, and think it's an aspect of serious relationships that can't be avoided.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Monstrous obesity = dud (hey, I'm a fattie, but not HUGE), anorexia skinny = dud, the attractiveness in between depends on the person.

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What would you consider monstrous obesity? I'm getting ready to throw myself off a bridge here.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean *really* big, proper medical problem big.

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Monstrous obesity = 400 lbs or more, depending on the size of your frame. I know a woman who weighs approx. 450 and is 5'9". I really worry about her because she's having all kinds of knee problems, plus she's developed diabetes and has severe asthma problems. I generally don't have a problem until the person develops health problems which are directly correlated with the weight.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have never met anyone so obese they do not retain even a shred of attractiveness. I'm sure that's not because I have low standards or anything, too.

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What does 195 lbs. at 5'4" fall under? I'm really depressed. Two years ago I was 140 lbs. Cushing's disease=most evil disease ever.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably just overweight, like me. Don't fret about it!

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, yes, of course I was talking about dress sizes. (Mumbles quietly into his beer).

Pete, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, having done a bit of research just now, Cushing's Disease does look pretty horrible. Are you better now?

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Melissa, STOP WORRYING. That isn't anywhere NEAR morbidly obese.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not better now. It's still all fucked up. They haven't determined the cause of it yet. It should have a tagline. "Ugly, fat, sick, crazy, and tired? Might be Cushing's!" It's also quite impossible to diagnose. Hence people being near death before anything shows up. And most people (including doctors!) don't know what it is at all and will consistently Cushing's patients that they're fat hypochondriacs that need to lose weight. It's really depressing. Also causes OCD. Hence my newfound obsession with listmaking.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

will consistently tell*

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, Melissa, please stop worrying about your weight! It's perfectly fine.

Nicole, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Awww...you have my sympathy, Melissa. AND you have OCD? I think you deserve to win the lottery as compensation, or something.

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Melissa, you look fine. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I will be thinner soon as I have the cityfats now.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't listen to Paul. He's clearly got absolutely TERRIBLE taste in women.

Kate the Saint, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey! :)

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Melissa's pic link from that other thread won't work for me, so I couldn't say.

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's here. But the picture is several years old, pre-Cushing's onset.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh! Sulky! :-)

DG, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See, looks absolutely fine. Even if Cushing's messes with your body one of the best attributes in that picture is your eyes, which look wonderfully dark and deep. And they won't change.

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My face has swollen to twice the size though. One of the symptoms of Cushing's is something called "moonface" and it has pretty much obscured any good features on my face.
I should scan my passport photo. Really fucking sad. Eyebrows significantly smaller (another symptom)...nice double chin...
I just want my life and looks back.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sultry eyes, full lips = no worries on the looks level, methinks. :-) To echo what has been said elsewhere, fret not.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Posted, of course, just as Melissa posted that right above it -- I can see how side effects like that would freak you out! My main point remains the same, though -- and ultimately, the quality of being a cool person is what matters the most. :-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you should scan your passport photo.

ethan, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the quality of being a cool person is what matters the most.

But what if you're not a cool person. That's even harder to change. People are very prejudiced about boring and stupid people.

N.B. I am a very cool person. I'm just really caring too.

Nick, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't be the slightest bit cool if you put me in a meat locker, but you all still tolerate me here!

Kate the Saint, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Then you would be an ice lollie and that is a whole 'nother thread...

Nicole, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate you are the coolest becasue you are a rock star.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'Cool' = friendly, intelligent, thoughtful, funny, etc., I should note.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry, but ya'all are wusses. I don't think that Josh should've started this thread because this is where it was going to go - cagey answers, someone getting upset, so on and so forth, and that's not cool. Melissa, I know this is a bullshit statement because it's not going to help and you aren't going to stop worrying, but don't worry so much about it. There is only so much you can do because it's a medical condition. You just have to try to be positive and hope that you can lick it and put your energy into that instead of being sad about the looks thing. Mind you, the reason I say this is a bullshit statement is because that's way, way easier said than done. The thing is, there isn't anything you can DO about it besides throwing yourself into making your health improve, and that's the priority, and just remember that if you can do that then A) you can do anything and B) you will be rid of all those physical symptoms. I'm afraid I know very little about this disease and what it does and how long it'll last and if you can get rid of it, but I think that if you just put yourself into being positive, it'll help immensely.

Um, anyhow, I will follow the company line and not step on any toes. Be advised that I personally would like to be very, very skinny. That does not mean I want that in other people necessarily, people can be attractive in any size depending on many factors.

Ally, Wednesday, 25 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Have you ever heard buttocks reffered to as " Bedunk-a-dunk" ?

mike hanle y, Sunday, 16 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ally: almost all of my opinions are as irrational as that one! it's frustrating.

Skinny side of average, I'd guess.

Graham, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as fat as you think you are. At a guess.

I'm 5'4 110 and I am fat, I don't know what I would do if I weighed any more! I'd probably starve till I died! If anyone needs advice on a diet, I'll give you a safe one that works, and you get quick results- for FREE! Just email me! xoxo*

Laura, Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

5'5 oops... and 110*** I will give you a SAFE diet, I promise! xoxo*

Laura, Wednesday, 22 January 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Laura, without wanting to belittle you, in no known universe is a person with those measurements fat and I think your "starve till I died!" comment is rather flippant and could be hurtful to others.

Life is very boring and without sensuality if you restrict yourself all the time, get over it and eat a cake.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

But cake is nice.

I don't think your methodology works.

Really in the end what happens is this; Girl restricts weight gaining foods, girl ignores cravings, girl ignores her body, two weeks later girl finds out she has cancer, angry angry cancer.

& about this

what would you consider a girl that is 137 lbs and 5 foot 7.5 ?

Yeah, it's cute but it's also irritating because apart from height & weight he knows nothing about the girl & I know that he was just soothing petty neurosis, or attention seeking or whatever the hell it was, but what if she had no legs & no arms & was only a 5'7 jiggling abdomen with a brain attached by some twine. You never know. Maybe that is his thing, but how can he call that from those values?

nellie (minna), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

haha x6

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

abby (way upthread) is cool.

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly - Abby describes enjoying life and having an appetite for everything. Which is what I meant by my trite 'go eat a cake' comment. I was pissed off, what can I say?

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Go eat a cake, Anna!

ha ha, j/k - I agree.

But doesn't that make a great insult?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but I am currently eating cheese (fear the fat in that one! Cheese, ow!) and it doesn't go with cake.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

cheesecake.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, nellie, the absurdity and utter shallowness of the remark in the Internet context, aside from the fact that the first poster said she was a "girl," is what tickles my funny bone. I didn't even look at the numbers.

It reminds me for some reason of this Doonesbury cartoon where Lacey Davenport goes to like her 50th college reunion and says something kind of wistful to the bartender about how she wonders if a young man will ever look at her again like they did back when she was young. The bartender (who is Mark) stops polishing the glass he is polishing and gives her, you know, kind of a "look" like he is checking her out.

So I found erik's post quite poignant, in a way. It's so clearly contrived that it's almost sweet.

softened, amirite?

strongohulkington, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

well i for one plan to immediately go back to my purposefully trying to irritate ethan phase, actually. i think you should go back to your hardline stances as well.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

This is a bit of a big media issue right now - Heat has suddenly gone very pro-fat girls all of a sudden. It put Beth Ditto and Vanessa Feltz on the cover in successive weeks.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

Possibly as a reaction to Look magazine and it's 'OMG SIENNA PUTS ON HALF A STONE!' editorial line.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

I seem to recall that AMPy wrote this article a couple of months ago - but then again, maybe she deadline-surfed for some time. ;-)

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I think that different girls mags are written for different weight-audiences. Closer being size 00, Heat being size 18.
